thank you! the sun is still out there somewhere? lol. actually there is a break in the rain at the moment. its still very cloudy and threatening but its not RAINING. im gonna venture out and get some outside time. too much time indoors or at bad movies. remind me to tell you about yesterdays flick. shaking head.
Okay, so last night I turned on the tv, with my cable service in tact, and tuned to WMOR to watch Frasier. Instead of Frasier, I was watching a show telling me that if I'm seeing this message, my equipment hasn't been updated and that I should contact a local cable company to get cable service or purchase a converter box.
After being passed around on hold with the cable company for about 45 minutes, someone finally just said, "it's a known issue. We're working on it." Apparently, many of the other employees didn't get that memo yet.
yep thats the same thing that happened to me. the cable companies have organized your cable experience into something else and now you need new equip to have what you had before and oh yeah the price is a bit higher too. did you already have digi cable? did they resolve it for you?
Man that sunrise is gorgeous! Have a great day.
sun? whats that? lol. its been raining for weeks, the forecast calls for rain for another week. the puddles in my yard are ankle deep and i get soaked just walking to the car. the yard however is thriving. the grass is a beautiful emerald green, the berry bushes are popping with berries, the lettuce is abundant and i dont have to worry about a drought only cancelled weekend plans. bah. post a pix of the sun so i can remember what it looks like:)
Yes, I already had digital cable, and the channel was back by the next morning.
I'll try to snap a picture of the sunrise tomorrow, as the sun is already in the sky.

omg ... sad, but funny :) your conversation made me lol.
yanno, i always try to not be obnoxious when speaking to the customer service people. its never their fault and i dont wanna add misery to whats got to be a difficult task theyre given with what these days seems an apparent a lack of tools and training provided by their employers. so i usually joke around with them and try to work with them. when i told my friend who works for the company how many times i was hung up on she said. so you were a b itch and they hung up. i said no of course not but i could tell she was thinking i was anyway. im a believer in the david brenner philosophy of being a customer and thats this: dont piss off the little people, they are the gatekeepers between you and what you want.
as far as the movies on demand and hbo on demand, at least for me all i have to do is go to channel 200 for the hbo demand (the regular hbo channels start at 201 and up) and for movies on demand i just push the movie on demand button on the remote controller then for either one i just move around to show all movies or pick a particular genre, find a movie i want and push the select button.
i have played with this a bit but from what i can see, aside from hbo and showtime, there is little on this on demand feature that i couldnt already access on hulu. there are prolly 3 tv shows that i really like and usually im not home when they are on. in the past a friend has taped them for herself and she gives me the tapes when shes done and thats worked but i was looking forward to what the sales guy promised and that was that i could set this thingy for all the shows that i wanted to watch that week, record them, and then play and fast forward thru the ads. i like that since an hour show prolly has 30 min of ads and time, sweet time, is the thing i dont have much of.
here is a thought. around here, when you have the cable installed, they are supposed to set it up and teach you how to use it as part of the installation. call them back and tell them you need an appt for a technician to come out and get all the tvs working and teach you how to operate the equipment. that way, it stops all the crazy phone antics they are trying to do and i dont know about you, but it is easier if someone shows me (well, cant say that about the dvr!! lol) then if they are trying to explain it over the phone.
heres the thing. im frugal. yes yes its true and i aint gonna pay for someone to come out and walk me thru it. i am already objecting to the installation aspect thats apparently tacked onto the bill. the cable and the net are christmas gifts that someone gives me every year and since i dont pay for them i am reluctant to add anything onto the bill. i suppose i could reimburse them for the additional cost but theres that frugal aspect. i dont mind paying for things that i want but these changes were made because of the companys change in policy and on principle i object to that. i was talking to my friend today who works at the cable company and was complaining to her about the less than stellar customer service and she said "just pay it dont be like all the idiots that call and complain. theres nothing you can do about it so just suck it up and pay it." im not liking that idea.
Now watching a dvd is a whole 'nuther matter ... and involves a sequence of buttons, settings and planet alignments .... on a rainy tuesday, but only at noon. I have a cheat sheet I use which I'm sure sounds silly, but it works.
omg!! that is too funny!!! BUT i totally believe it!!!!!! sounds a bit like the play back feature that she would ask me to do.....

hmmmmm. wow. i dont have the dvr thingie...but my ex did have one...never did figure that thing out no matter how many times she showed me....got to the point that when she would ask me to start a show she had recorded while she was making dinner, i would look at her with the "yeah right" look and start laughing..! at my house, i only have one tv (well my son split the signal off and ran cable to his apt out back, but only one in the house) so maybe that makes it easier..idk....
the remote control that the cable company gave me has a little red button on it labeled "rec". If I go to the tv listings thingie, scroll through til I see what I want, highlight it with the remote and push the 'rec' button a red dot shows up on the listing letting me know it will be recorded.

i hear ya on this....probably why i dont watch much...altho i do have to say, i watched two movies this weekend! one good thing thing about cable: Movies on Demand and HBO on Demand.
yeah i havent figgered that part out yet. when i initially spoke to the cable company
after the 7 hangups, my threats to cancel my service. and the transfer over to the retention area, they agreed to allow me to have cable with free hbo and showtime and this dvr thing for 29.99 a month which is apparently what the sattelite nets are going for. my dog walker stayed in my home for the installation because i had to work that day and its not exactly what i had envisioned or what was promised. they put something called "dtas" on all the tvs except the family room tv which has some orthe sort of thing on it. apparently i can get all of the digi channels save the premium channels on the other tvs but the premium only on the family room tv. according to the person in the retention area this was not a problem because this dvr thing would allow me to record, stop or program a show to play in one of the other rooms. not. or at least i cant figger out how to do so. the only time i watch tv is when i am working. i like to have the noise on in the background to soothe my wandering mind and keep me focused and i attend to it from one part of the brain while working with the other. however my office tv apparently cant be programmed to accept this stuff from the dvr because it has a dta instead of a whatever else is needed thingy. i called them back about this and spoke to their mexican office people again. nice people but they seem to have some transfer the call skill problems since we get to the inevitable impasse and they say they need to transfer me and instead hang up. coincidence? lol. i doubt it.
heres how that goes. i say:
me: yes hi i recently upgraded my cable experience and im not getting what i was told i should be getting.
them: let me check and see.
me- okey dokey
ithem - i see you have the expanded digi package with free premium for 2 years.
me- yes, only i cant figger out where the premium channels are.
them- turn on the tv we are going to send you a signal.
me- really? all the way from mexico? should i stand away from the tv or something?
them- ok try again
me- nothings happening
them- ok ill send another signal
me- ok theres not like some radiation threat here or anything is there. i mean shouild i be holding this box?
omg ... sad, but funny :) your conversation made me lol. Good luck on the next go round!

them -what channel are you trying.
me 15 and 14 thats where hbo is right?
them- no the premium channels are on channels 500-510
me- i think my tv sets all only go up to 125
them- use the remote to put 500 in
me- wowza there it is
them ok is there anything else we can do for you?
me-yes the dvr feature is not working and apparently youve charged me for installation. why should i pay when you people took the channels away in the first place?
them- you dont have a dvr feature
me- well brian from your retention dept said i would
them- that costs more money do you want to add it to your package
me- no i want what brian said id get
them- hold on ill transfer you
click and dial tone.
on my first go round i was hung up on 7 times. when i called back 3. i gave up for the moment because im slammin busy these past couple of weeks but illl beeee baaack for round 3. i intend to get what was promised by them. maybe ill threated to cancel again and see what else they are willing to pony up to keep the service going tho it seems a lot of effort on their part to keep my measly 30 bucks a month going.
. im disappointed with the new digi service. it now really is a case of "500 channels and not a thing to watch." television is becoming one big infomercial, punctuated with lots of "stupid human pet trick" shows.
i hear ya on this....probably why i dont watch much...altho i do have to say, i watched two movies this weekend! one good thing thing about cable: Movies on Demand and HBO on Demand.
im curious for those without cable and those with cable who didnt do anything special, is the boob tube still working?
the one thing im digging about digital cable is that when you go to switch from say fox to cnn glen becks face freezes in the weirdest way. well really everyones face freezes momentarily and never in a flattering way. i find myself clicking thru the channels just to make this happen.
I only knew of one person who didn't already have cable, and she had cable installed in time for the first deadline.
I'm just glad to be rid of the commercials on cable from the cable company telling me to get cable.
i already had digital cable and didnt do anything special for the change over and saw/see no difference in the tv. wouldnt have matter to me really anyway, since i rarely watch tv.....but, its still on here.
i read an article stating the fcc received only 300, 000 calls as a result of the switch over. i guess it went rather smoothly. im disappointed with the new digi service. it now really is a case of "500 channels and not a thing to watch." television is becoming one big infomercial, punctuated with lots of "stupid human pet trick" shows.
