whats that stuff in the bottom pix?
oh, be still my heart ... that bottom picture appears to be pepper gravy .. .which was probably ladled ever so lavishly over those little jewels above ...........
pepper gravy? i dont know about this. whats in it?
Yup. Biscuits and gravy and eggs for brunch yesterday. And they sat there like a ROCK in my stomach for a good long time. (btw... did you notice the little "dog bone" biscuit? :)
lol you made buck a biscuit? and did he get the gravy too? awwwww
Until you mentioned, I did not catch that the pics were recent and, you. Awwwwwwwww made Buck one too. I'm glad to know I am not the only one that succumbs by the mere mention of biscuit and gravy. Gator
i admit it sounds intriguing tho any kind of gravy is a no no on my diet. if you were here id ask for a bite! just a bite no harm in a bite, right? sigh. i had the southern living cookbook out this afternoon and went to the grocery intending to cook for the weekend. this is pride weekend and we are having friends over for dinner before we go to the concert. but i then went to the gym, came home and took a nap for 3 hours instead. lol. i did find the recipe for chicken pasta salad that ive been looking for forever. i was going to whip up a vegetarian spring veeggie lasagne, the chicken pasta salad, a vat of green salad, some lemon cookies and pear bread. now that im awake im torn between going back to sleep or staying awake and gettin er done.

oh yeah .. biscuits and gravy .. one of those simply perfect food combinations .. satisfying to mind, body and soul.
Aiding and abetting ... no other words for it ...

SHUT UP!!!!
oops. Did that come out of me? Sorry ... I ... I'm still stuck in "guilty pleasures" world, and was fantasizing about a piping hot loaf of perfect french bread, slathered with butter ... and a big glass of milk, a'course.
Sorry ... <former flour addict>
no you shut up;)......... There is something about a pat of butter when it is married to a hot french loaf. Watching it meld and flow over it makes me weak in the knees. Gator.....................milk is for cereal.
We used to have a local bakery where you could go and grab a piping hot loaf .. but along came the mega supermarkets with their in-store bakeries and they ultimately put the little guy out of business.
It was a sad day ....

I don't understand these jersey folk in here talking sprinkles .. lol .. it was jimmies all the way! I never even heard of a sprinkle til I was visiting family in MA.
ive always called them sprinkles when talking seriously about them like in line at the dq but in my family we jokingly refer to them as jimmies cause thats what it says on the package. i wonder where that came from? i mean i can see why spinkles would be appropriate but jimmies?
I happen to know this ... lol .. the candy company where they were developed named them after the guy that invented them ..

Steak and lobster with a baked potato and Caesar salad. A couple times a year. My constant guilt is grabbing a handful of roasted nuts throughout a lot of evenings. Along with them goes the coke crave. I'm down to a couple of them a month. I need them to burp. For years, every time I get my peanut butter I wonder how nutella taste. Gator
you shouldn't have guilt with a handful of nuts .. that qualifies as healthfood.
Probably fry bread. Came THIS close to trying a bite of a fried twinkie once, but didn't.
I've never tried a fried twinkie or oreo or any of those things ... I saw recently on the SE site where folks were accusing Paula Dean of contributing to the downfall of cardio health everywhere when she took a hunk of mac and cheese, wrapped it in bacon .. and, I kid you not .. deep fried the whole thing. lol .. I swear it makes me shiver just typing this .... ugh !
for me .. red meat and sugar ... but I doubt either will go anytime soon.

lol
I had to have one for breakfast. I'm so addicted. lol Gator
I REALLY WAS just kidding when I said shut up, btw.
I ADORE GOOD biscuits and gravy. Back in the 70's, before all the grocery stores were being sold to one another and changing names faster than most change their sheets, there was a grocery store chain named "Smittys." Typically the Smitty's stores had attached, on the side, a fast food sorta place, where you could get things like ... oh, I dunno, a corn dog, or a piece of chicken and a side of mashed potatoes or green beans. Anyway, on the other side of THAT divider, there was typically a sit down "restaurant." Wasn't your typical restaurant as you'd think of it, was more like a cafe without the ambiance. There were a group of us (five, I think) who used to get together for breakfast at least one Saturday a month, to just touch base. Anyway, there was this one cook, who rotated from store to store, and omg, he made the best biscuit sausage gravy I've ever tasted. I became a groupie, and followed him from store to store for a while. LOL. Geezopetes, did that guy have the touch. Making GOOD gravy for biscuits is an art form, and BAD gravy, sort of a tragic thing, IMO. I make neither particularly well. :) Not with any consistancy, anyway, although I've not even attempted to for years. I just don't excel in baking things that need to rise.
Steak and lobster with a baked potato and Caesar salad. A couple times a year. now that sounds good. damn.
Lets eat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gyro or sausage but, that was years ago. Hard to find organic meats there. Gator
uh huh what do you think they do with alla those prize winners from the tractor pulls?
Whatever it breaks many a heart.
We call them sprinkles but, natives like to dip in chocolate. Gator
ever try the cherry dip? thats pretty good too. especially on chocolate ice cream.
Nothing like chocolate and cherry combined. I'll have to try that this summer..........These days it's hard to find a good dipping spot though

EVERYTHING tastes better at a fair .. at least for me. There are certain foods at certain fairs that are a must have, sometimes it's a sausage, onion and pepper sandwich .. sometimes a corndog ... and there's this one that has this hot roast pork sandwich with broccoli rabe .. but there seems to be only two things I can't leave any fair without ... cotton candy and a small piece of funnel cake.
Probably fry bread. Came THIS close to trying a bite of a fried twinkie once, but didn't.

Heh. Yeah. :) I had my first gyro ever in Athens, only there, it was called souvlaki. Street vendors (especially down at the plaka) would have a hunk of the seasoned meat on an outdoor rorotisserie, and just shave off some for your order, and then plop it into the ... what? Flatbread, whatever it was called, and load it up with the veggies, and that ... seemed like cucumber based dressing. OMG were those tasty! Have yet to find one stateside that could come close to a match. In Greece, they're ... well? Sorta like the national Big Mac I guess. Instead of a Big Mac and Coke, it was souvlaki and a Tam-Tam (which was sorta like a Dr. Pepper.)
At first I thought Athens Georgia. OMG Owl Greece? Tell us more your lucky dogette. Gator

LOTS of things are suddenly popping into my head that really shouldn't be.
oh yeah im thinking a big garbage bowl of things, spaghtti with sausage onion peppers garlic bread spread with nutella and a big pink cotton candy for dessert!
I've not bought any butter (okay ... the "balance" junk that passes for butter) had you tried the spray "butter" yet? its not bad, really. a long way from butter buds, remember those?
some questions from the serious eats website .. esp interesting b/c of regional differences. Its kinda fun to read what everyone else likes, grew up with, finds disgusting or can't live without .. or maybe I'm easily entertained. Either way ... I thought it might make for entertaining discussion.
for me ... nutella is a seriously guilty indulgence .. right off the spoon ... really .. just grab a teaspoon and go in. I only do it once in a while .. really
yum, i like nutella tho ive rarely had it. not sure why that is. its prolly not a bad thing to have tho not all the time and prolly in combo with something that would moderate the carbs a bit. my guilty food pleasure is mike and ikes. ill never buy them but if my kids have them or one of my friends my hand is out. the rest of my guilty pleasure have pasta in them. mac and cheese, pasta salad, mac and tuna salad.

my fave would be a soft serve twist cone. i dont like a lot of fair food. funnel cakes are ok when they are freshly made. we have one fair here, the big E, that has buildings representing each of the northeastern states and they usually have regional goodies that are to die for. last fall i had vermonts cider doughnuts and i swear they melted as you took a bite. a lot of the lions club fairs have those buildings where they do the bar b que stuff and thats pretty good. the chicen or the sausage and peppers on a toasted roll. damn im getting hungry here. lol
I hate opening up and finding cheese on my tuna fish sandwich ... and that's cause I like my tuna with mayo and something about the cheese sitting on the mayo .. which is really weird because I like mayo on my cheeseburger ... but I just can't do it with tuna :::shivers:::
the other day i had to stop at a grocery on my lunch to pick up some non food items and to save time i picked up a premade sandwich at the deli. it looked good. ham and cheese with grilled red peppers but when i ate a few bites it tasted off. dont know how else to describe that.it came with a small container of macaroni salad which also tasted weird. so promising and yet....i dumpsterized most of it.

Hmm. Can't really think of anything.... probably a chee'bugahchee'bugah with a tall glass of milk. (or beer ... lol)
I only have it about once every two or three years, if that, but I always feel guilty when I have spaghetti carbonara.
Potato salad, too.
... I think I need to quickly move away from this specifc topic ... LOTS of things are suddenly popping into my head that really shouldn't be.

I've been trying to drink my coffee black for awhile now. I have about ... eh? 50/50 success at this point, I guess. I've only had bread once in the last three weeks, and I honestly can't remember the last time I had red meat. I should give up fat in my diet. That's the killer for me ... I've not bought any butter (okay ... the "balance" junk that passes for butter) for about a month or so -- am trying really hard to go without, or substitute olive oil. Not "suffering" at all, just ... making different choices, ya know?
