Did you know hummingbirds "imprint?" I mean ... they recognize and sorta "own" people? This one, for instance, "knows" both me AND the dog, and that we "belong" in that space.
The hummingbird feeder IS UP, and (s)he KNOWS it,
(That's him/her on the branch there to the left and slightly above the feeder) but for whatever reason, the water in the fountain was more inviting this day.
I'm just "calm" to the core of my being, you know? Like I want to capture this moment and hold on to it forever.
Heh. How's THAT for "good"? :)
Hope your day is even better. :))

I was inspired by this. I looked at the tree and, the neglected hunmmingbird feeder. And, when I brought it in and, saw it leaked, I went and, bought a new one:) Last week mine came calling and, buzzing me with that WTF kind of buzz. And, you reminded me with much more than just that. I love the fountain. Are all the cups placed your handy work? Gator
Well, how cool is THAT?? Your post really made me smile yesterday. I tried twice to reply, but both times, the posts got stuck in that "uploading fordangever" mode, and I had to ditch them.
I got my hummingbird feeder (this one) at Goodwill a couple of months ago -- still in the box -- for a couple of bucks. The globe on this one is heavy glass. The one I had before (all plastic) was also shot.
We had a hellish wind storm here the other night (power lines were knocked out for about seven hours) and in the morning, I found this JUST FILLED TO THE BRIM feeder on the ground, with the liquid in it spilled all round like little hummingbirdfeeder blood. I felt I should hang yellow crime scene tape around it, or something. Upon closer examination, I found that the branch had broken. The good news is, the globe didn't break! Yay!
As for the fountain -- the cups are part of it -- they're brass, and different sized, and there's a submerged jet that circulates the water, so that the one little cup not attached, floats around in circles, bumping into the more attached ones, and it chimes different notes (because the attached ones are different sizes) as it goes around.
The "fountain" part at the top is completely adjustable, and can be shut off, if I want, so you just get the chimes. I'll do that sometimes when I put tea candles in the (attached) cups. I've also put 'em in the thing that goes around, too. :)
Here's a better shot to help explain:
the one in the upper right hand corner is the one that floats around. In the upper center, you can see the hose thing that comes out from the pump which circulates the water. I HAD two floaty thingies but one is in need of repair at the moment.

Love the fountain .. and the hummingbird. I put out feeders too .. but it's still a bit early for us.
Your morning sounds lovely though. Gently easing into your day ... sounds like the dog enjoyed it too.
now see you have cute thimble sized hummingbirds gently sipping at your fountain. i have freaking canadian geese honking, bringing down aircraft, *****ing on my lawn and chasing me around the yard. wanna trade?
I empathize with the crappy ducks, but ever been hit by flying #2 from one of these monsters?

I have to say it: I cannot ever remember enjoying spending the early morning in my back yard more than I did today.
I don't know how to describe the (before 8:30AM) weather, except to say it was like an Oregon summer morning. Maybe that makes a connection with you, maybe not.
I'd completely forgotten it was Sunday morning, until I heard the church bells pealing. It was one of those mornings where you work a little ... "tinker," really, pull a weed here and there, pick up a brick, sweep ... and you sit and drink coffee very quietly a little, until your eye catches another weed, and then you repeat the whole process. I even found myself whispering to the dog, I so didn't want to disrupt the serenity of the morning. Probably it was so peaceful in part, because it IS Sunday morning, and there's not so much M-F type noise. Don't know the numbers, but I was in shorts and a T-shirt, and the temperature felt perfect.
Oh, and an old friend stopped by to say "hi" and have a morning sip with me...
