Critics say new Afghan law 'legalizes rape'

It applies to Shiites, says husband entitled to sex 'as and when he desires'

KABUL - A new Afghan law makes it legal for men to rape their wives, human rights groups and some Afghan lawmakers said Thursday, accusing President Hamid Karzai of signing the legislation to bolster his re-election prospects.

Critics worry the legislation undermines hard-won rights for women enacted after the fall of the Taliban's strict Islamist regime.

The law which some lawmakers say was never debated in parliament is intended to regulate family life inside Afghanistan's Shiite community, which makes up about 20 percent of this country of 30 million people. The law does not affect Afghan Sunnis.

The children, ranging in age from 20 months to 15, were stopped behind a school bus in their family's 1993 Pontiac when Wilkerson's 2004 Freightliner semi rolled over the car. Both vehicles crashed into the bus, and the car burst into flames, killing everyone inside.

Mom Allegedly Let Pre-Teen Drive Kids

(March 26) - A Montana woman faces misdemeanor charges for allegedly letting her 12-year old daughter drive the girl's three younger siblings to a daycare facility five miles away.

Angela Parenteau, 32, allegedly told authorities she asked her daughter to drive the children, whose ages range from 1 to 4 years old, because she was sick and on medication, the Great Falls Tribune reported.

The mother faces four counts of endangering the welfare of children and one count of allowing an unauthorized minor to operate a motor vehicle.

Employees at a daycare facility in Great Falls, Mont., alerted police to the situation after the girl arrived there on Wednesday.

oh my. i wonder how many pillows she had to use to see over the windshield?  and speaking of mother of the year is anyone ready to throttle octomom?  i was actually feeling a bit sorry for her until she fessed to doing it for the money and until the nurses she fired reminded everyone that she was never home bonding with da babies. it must be very difficult to parent with the eyes of the world on you. i think most parents would fail that test but geesh i do hope someone is keeping tabs on those kiddos.
