Anywho, this is one of the trails I followed from the ITunes podcasts through the internet to find out more about. I was specifically seeking some such place becuase of a discussion I had with a co-worker today. He was mystified and man pissy, about the inclusion of a 50 million dollar grant to the current "STIMULUS" plan for the NEA. He argued the usual wasteful spending, no job creation, blah blah side. ANd I partly agree, the number, if any of jobs created by these types of short term projects have not stimulated in the past. They are child sized bandages, at best. I said, Ted, this is art, and reading, and new ways of looking at things. We're borrowing 300 million bucks from China to create planned parenthood programs in third world nations. We are a third world nation. Do you want us to appear poor, disorganized, illiterate and NOW artless as well? Didn't think so Ted, thanks for stopping by.

I think the arts brings a lot of spending to a community and spendings what its all about these days, isnt it? i was looking into national endowment for the art grants the other day. ive been thinking about doing a particular project and the deadline for that grant is march 12th.  its apparently necessary to have tax exempt status first which takes some time  and the project needs to be at least 3 years running. given the nature of the grant the last part is perplexing.

i was wondering tonight what would happen if say this stimulus thing does work and spending brings back some measure of the economy. do we have to keep spending ad infinitum to keep it going? talk about yer giant ponzi schemes. seems the us govt has been running one for the last 10 years or so.

Well, really. We don't have a dime of the "spending" right now as it is. May as well start thinking ahead toward future borrowing. Grant writing is an art in itself, and a deadline of 3/12 is tremendous pressure. Good luck, grant writers are often forgotten about. Everybody is competing for the same borrowed money, not everyone gets it. Especially if it's all on the "up and up". Go for it, it's either going to be completed and fantastic, or miss the deadline. But if you (we) dont get the ball rolling it never stood a chance.

I've been overwhelmed by this Apple gadget and it's ITunes and the never ending free subscriptions to podcasts from everything on how to make your own manure while churning homemade butter to the sounds of post modernist banjo and handmixer sounds playing excitedly in the background. Also, cnn, fox, maddow, cooper, the New Yorker, Onion News (onn,  and on and on all have FREE audible snippets and shows that drone on slowly in that special place in my head where I hear and somehow learn new things without necessarily ever once feeling distracted by it. I downloaded the audiobook Northanger Abbey for 1.95, it speaks Jane Austen to me so I don't have to hold the book up. That's eight hours and some minutes of reading entertainment spoken to me for 2 bucks. This was a good buy. After I learned that it's not the enemy and clicking "buy" everytime you see the word isn't necessary. Also, they have made it free and easy to convert other mp3 libraries you own or have into their Apple format at lighning speed.  ITouch, big thumbs up on that.
