i havent had this happen to me...yet. but thanks for the heads up....

i had an odd situation about 2 weeks ago....i got like, 3-4 calls left on my cell phone voicemail saying it was bank of america and the automated voice message said they needed to talk with me to discuss my account. first call, i just assumed it was a wrong number....then the next call, i thought about it and since i have NO accounts of any form, whether loans, savings, checking, credit card, and no mortgage with bank of america, i did not return the call. the calls stopped after the 3rd or 4th one....makes me wonder if this was some sort of scam.....i had just thought it was some sort of solicitation...... <shrug>

that was probably the same scam. i have gotten emails from the bank of america and ive ignored them. the bad part of this is when you do get legit communication from a bank or one of the monitoring agencies you might not respond or follow thru thinking its a scheme when its not. im thinking of lighting up my alter and turning the whole lot of these scammers oh yeah and the spammers into goats! lol

Yikes! I did a quick search online and couldn't find anything about this particular scam, yet. But, if it gets me close to hitting reply or responding in anyway, it's a pretty well-done scam. I don't fall for these things easily. I'm glad you don't, too.

there were a lot of things about this on the news last evening and thruout the day on cable and most of the banks in this area have placed warnings on their websites. i stuck an example below.  from what i heard on the news yesterday the goal is to get the security code off of the back of your card so they can charge stuff over the phone.

Consider submitting this story to snopes to let others know about it. I was just looking for a submission link for you. There is a "submit a rumor" link on snopes.

ill check and see. its prolly there already. i just googled this to get a copy of yesterdays news stories and there were thousands of scams and schemes out there. good grief. the mattress is looking better all the time:)

I don't answer my cell phone during the day, but I did see two calls come in from a 615 area code. I considered answering the second, but decided against it. I did not receive a text though.

thats prolly wise. i rarely answer calls during the daytime either and never where i dont know the caller or if the caller id is blocked.

ATTENTION!!! FRAUD ALERT!!! Members and non-members who receive suspicious fraudulent email notifications, telephone calls or text messages from someone purporting to be from the IRS or the Credit Union should NOT return the call or message and should NOT give out any personal information such as account number, card number, PIN, or social security number.   The emails include links to fraudulent websites. This is a wide reaching scam affecting multiple financial institutions at this time.

if anyone gets a text message or a phone call stating that your credit or atm account has been frozen and that you need to call a number given to reactivate it dont call. the message sounded very genuine, like what you would get from those folks who notice weird activity on your account. anyway its a nationwide scam that hit today.  it happened to me this morning and i nearly fell for it. the only thing that kept me from calling was that the text message came from a bank where i use the atm but dont have an account. still because i do use their free atms i was tempted to call the number but called my own bank instead and was told that its a huge scam that started today. apparently anyoen who has used an atm or used a debit or credit card in any place of business in the last few months is at risk. the scary part of this is that these banks cant tell how their processing centers were hacked. not very reassuring is it?

not paranoid they really are out to get us". I can recall seeing that on a button or bumper sticker as far back as the early eighties. We had NO IDEA how accurate that statement would become. Glad you had the paranoia(sic) or good sense to call your bank directly. So much of all business is farmed out even by our own vendors nowdays who knows.

Makes me feel like punking a teller and asking if I need a gun, note and a mask to withdraw my own money.

heck it seems all you need is some it experience never mind the gun and mask. i came thisss close to falling for it tho.im gonna have to get more noid:) people are trained to do what an authority asks of them and so this is a good scam as far as scams go. it feels authentic and it was worded in perfect english. most of these scams screw up the syntax somehow and thats usually the first tip off. but whoever is behind this knows the banks in the area of the number theyve stolen and they are able to text you which suggests to me that they have access to the whole data base. and btw they texted my work cell and ive not given that number out to anyone other than my family, my doctors, my bank, my boss and my assistant. now that is some scary stuff.
