Not sure "servant of God" is considered a "fun" name (as it's listed) or that "daughter" would be a good name for a male dog, but I did look for Puck. Couldn't find it, but I did find this:

PukulriaBone ChewerAlaskan, Eskimo

I wouldn't be callin' him that, but he IS a bone chewer (and anything else lying around.) :)

rofl! it is a good choice tho the nickname for that would be terrible! and look at those eyes! buckie is bee--yooo--tiful!

As for "Kadan" ... his one syllable name would be "Cad?" disbelief

hmmm yeah.  i think i like the name because one of my kids friends named his daughter cadence and ive thought that a fab name for a kid.

He's ... an imp. :) He really is. He frolics and plays a lot. LOVES throwing his rawhide up in the air for himself, and then tackling it. That's about his favorite game, really. And he doesn't want anyone playing it WITH him! LOL. He's also a lover. Will come in here and rest one paw on my leg, and look at me with those mournful eye until I say "OK up" and tap my chest, and then he climbs up on his hind legs, and hugs me. I can't pick ANYTHING up off the floor without him getting right in there and licking me in the face, no matter how hard I try.

and isnt that the best? the best thing about labs is that they love you and greet you as tho you walk on water even if youve just gone outside to water the garden the greeting is the same. if only people were that happy to see us all the time!

..

And on that note -- more six foot fencing going up tomorrow.
Even when I'm watching, he now stands up on his hind legs and looks over the fence all the time. THOSE days are soon behind him. I am, though, thinking about maybe making a little ... uhh ... window -- a square hole -- with a flap on it that closes, on the gate; he does so love to run to that gate that doesn't yet have the lumber between the iron bars, and look down the alley. Seems a sin to deprive him of all that pleasure. Just a little window, down low, yanno .... could easily be replaced with new lumber if I wanted, at some point ....

uh....im predicting that buckie will somehow get his head stuck trying to get thru that window! maybe a nice doggie chaise inside the house!

I wonder what the Japanese word for "spoiled rotten" is?
labbyoto:) i think buck would like this one

My two favorite Shakespeare characters were in the same play, Merchant. But since Portia won't work for the boy, and Shylock is a pretty heavy cross to carry, how about Romiet? Or Jewelio?  I went home last night and called stitch Molly. Buck doesn't look like a Molly, but neither does stitch really look like a Barbara or any number of names I call her. They love us regardless of what we call them. :)

I dunno he sort of looks like a buck to me! or a sam..yeah he has that sam look about him too. sort of wise and playful all at the same time.   But i glanced over at the lab name finder and i like kadan. thats a cool name and all the dykes at the bark park will ask you how he came to have that name of course so it serves a dual purpose:) or you could have him enlist in the military and become general buck or lt buckie tho he seems a bit undisciplined for the military perhaps the name would inspire him!

I'm getting a new doggie door tomorrow -- 15" X 20." I just hope he doesn't outgrow it before I get it installed. He'll be two (and JUST two) March 1. hmm You wouldn't THINK a one year old dog could get over a 4' fence with ease, would ya. When he gets in the back of the vehicle and lays down, he takes up the whole seat. Geez I hope he stops growing soon....

Soooooooooooooo I'm thinkin' about renaming the dog.

Is that weird?
I'm not sure.

I DO know it's weird to reprimand a dog in public whose name ends in "uck." People get confused. They don't hear me right. They look at me oddly.

But mostly, I just ... really don't care for the name "Buck."

IF I should end up keeping this dog...
Would it be weird to rename him?

Which got me to thinking, in a round about way, about Romeo and Juliet, and wondering what they would have named their kid, if they'd had one.

I was thinking about Romeo and Juliet, in part because of the famous "What's in a name?" speech, and in part because Buck's (subject to change) previous owners were star crossed lovers, really.

He could be a Tybalt, I suppose, but that seems to sound a lot like "kibble." Mercutio would work, temperment-wise, but he met an unfortunate end, and plus, that's hard to wrap your mouth around. I thought about Friar Tuck, but then we're back to square one.

So then I started thinking about the imaginary kid of Romeo and Juliet, had things turned out differently. I wondered what he'd grow up to be ... if he'd go into politics, maybe, or become a diplomat. Maybe a rebel of some sort.

Then I realized I was drifting a wee bit too far.
Well, far for picking a name for a dog, anyway, but maybe not too far for musing. smile

Okay, I'm figuring it would be a boy-child. That may be a choice of convenience, but there you have it. Obviously, the guy isn't going to be named "Frank." That's just a silly name for an Elizabethan character. Also, a little silly for a dog, but I could see it, I suppose. I don't think I'll rename Buck "Frank" though. (Although he IS a "hot dog") giggle.gif

Sorry -- just couldn't resist.
Ahem.

I like the idea of a Shakepearian name, but it shouldn't be too high-falutin'.
If only "the fool" in Lear had had a name other than "fool" -- but see, no one would understand that -- they'd just think I was being cruel. "Hamlet" is high falutin'. Plus, I don't want to heap any additional neuroses on this dog.

There was a fool in Twelfth Night ... but I can't name a dog "Feste" now, can I? And what, "Fabian?" Everyone would think I'd named him after a teen idol of yesteryear. Naw, wasn't going to find a name there.

But hey! How about Midsummer Night's Dream? That's the right temperament.

And of course you know, probably the character from that play he's most like. <sigh> we're still back at square one again, but somehow, he does seem a "Puck" really, you know??

And ... he'd probably learn that pretty quickly. Not what I most wanted ... will still cause little old ladies to shrivel in horror when they hear me say sharply "Puck NO!" But MAYBE ... maybe if he had a name that better suited him... he wouldn't need reprimand quite as often, yanno?
