i think those surf tops are mainly for sun and abrasion protection (like when surfing)....dont know how effective they would be for keeping you a bit warmer....for me, i am a warm water kinda girl....wont get in the water if it makes me go brrr... i even have a solar heater for my pool, which for the most part, i use thru may to make the water just the prefect temp.....i am pretty much a bikini {or no bikini :) } kinda girl....
have you looked on line for reviews of the product to see if they are for colder weather swimming?

Yep, ive been looking at them online and its sort of mixed. it says protection from the elements and mentions cold but sort of as an afterthought for the short sleeved ones and the aqua jacket variety looks a bit bulky for lap swimming. i suppose for 60 bucks i could order one and see how it goes. if all else fails i could use it in the summer to protect from the sun.
i went to the pool this afternoon on my way home and i was shivering the whole time. sort of pissed me off.  instead of the usual hour of half laps and half pilates i left after 35 min of laps. ive developed a path of warmth tho. i get out in the deep end, hit the hot tub for 10 min, throw my towel around me, hit the showers on full hot water, jump out, run into the sauna to dry off and then get dressed. lol. i freaking hate being cold.
this is starting to look like its going to be the winter from hell. wind chills in the single digits for this entire week going into next. snow predicted for 2 days out of the next 4. ive sort of become used to the temps in the 40s and this change feels so abrupt.

do surf shirts keep you warm? the elastic in my swimsuits are all disintegrating so im swimsuit shopping right now and im and looking for something that will keep me warmer. its women against men at the y pool. the women all want the temp warmer the men all want it cooler. thus far the men are winning and since i dont wanna give up swimming till spring ive gotta find a way to keep warm. these surf shirt things look warm but im afraid ill end up with cold and clammy rather than just cold.  and are they flexible for swimming or are they like swimming with a wetsuit on?
