when i hear this song it always brings to mind some cartoon character with those x'ed out eyes being carried off to the heavens by vultures. i know that its eagles but in my head its vultures!

i didnt know this one. i googled the lyrics and i liked them. there is a sort of split emotional thing going on there.

This question stumped me. Several years ago I appointed a HCS, specified the number of days on a ventilator, feeding tube and every other level of extreme measures I will approve. Relieving the medical professionals, my family, and hopefully one day, a partner of any of these end of life stressors. However, this "final" song idea? Never crossed my mind. This week, and maybe this week only, it will be a George Michael number....
Anyone that knows me will surely appreciate the sarcasm and irony of the pick. I don't require a DJ, just a little boom box and a disco ball. Of course, next week? I may want Leo Sayers "You Make Me Feel Like Dancin'". But now?

most of the music ive heard at funerals has been in the form of hymns and for the most part, beautiful songs, tho on occasion the singer has left me wincing. the only funeral ive ever attended where popular music has been played was many years ago when a friend died unexpectedly. the family took the music collection and had everyone contribute photos which they turned into a slide presentation to go along with the music. made me cry at the time.

hmmm well what id really like is to have one of my writer friends or ex's write me an elegy. something id approve of like ode to a world weary curmudgeonly kerry woman who secretly believed, despite massive evidence to the contrary, that all people are good people. i wouldnt mind if it were set to music tho:)
if i were to pick a song for the death of an elder id pick "september when it comes" by johnny and roseanne cash.

recently at the funeral for the son of a friend, they played "I'll Be Missing You" by puff daddy, along with a photo montage. It had a lot of meaning for the mom and what she felt/feels....

That seemed to be "the" AIDS death tune.
When my dog before last died, I had her cremated, and made a flower bed in the spot in the yard where she used to lie and sun, and scattered some of her ashes there, so that she'd "be in" every flower which bloomed there. As I was doing it (by myself) I played BB King singin' "I'm Movin' On"

I might request that at my "Bon Voyage" bash. I think the coolest tune, though, was when a large woman died ... she had sheesh everything ... cancer, diabetes ... went blind ... got her vision back ... went blind again. Anyway, she was a GREAT woman and was "prepared" (I think "ready" even) and always had a huge laugh that you couldn't help but smile when you heard it right up to the very end.
As people were leaving her funeral she requested (and got) played over the PA system "Cheeseburger in Paradise."
