when i hear this song it always brings to mind some cartoon character with those x'ed out eyes being carried off to the heavens by vultures. i know that its eagles but in my head its vultures!

song i want played at mine: 'jacky' by marc almond.

i didnt know this one. i googled the lyrics and i liked them. there is a sort of split emotional thing going on there.

Never Gonna Dance Again :

Circles on the floor,
I'm getting down, low
But things ain't right, you're gone,
I'm losing ground, no

Do you remember when your heart was mine?
It's all I ever think when it comes to you and I
No I can't feel right, I'll be good and seal the deal
The rhythm can't just go its the only thing I feel (oh)

And so I'm never gonna dance again,
I lost my rhythm when you said it's over,
And as the final record starts to play,
I feel the dance floor turning colder,

ok...now that i have cleared my head a little....it struck me that this is not the george michael version....it is the one by sugababes

What's the worst thing you've ever heard at a funeral?

What would you like to have played at yours?

This question stumped me. Several years ago I appointed a HCS, specified the number of days on a ventilator, feeding tube and every other level of extreme measures I will approve. Relieving the medical professionals, my family, and hopefully one day, a partner of any of these end of life stressors. However, this "final" song idea? Never crossed my mind. This week, and maybe this week only, it will be a George Michael number....

Anyone that knows me will surely appreciate the sarcasm and irony of the pick. I don't require a DJ, just a little boom box and a disco ball. Of course, next week? I may want Leo Sayers "You Make Me Feel Like Dancin'". But now?

Never Gonna Dance Again :

Circles on the floor,
I'm getting down, low
But things ain't right, you're gone,
I'm losing ground, no

Do you remember when your heart was mine?
It's all I ever think when it comes to you and I

And so I'm never gonna dance again,
I lost my rhythm when you said it's over,
And as the final record starts to play,
I feel the dance floor turning colder,

And so I'm never gonna dance again,
Cause all the music in my world has faded,
Oh no it's never gonna be the same,
I guess the moves just never made it

Some first time, I'll work, I'll find
A picture perfect painting that I store in my heart
We were so bright to know we couldn't get it right
Our bodies are in twain now I can't get you off my mind
As we dance you know our feelings show
You oughtta know you got me
As we dance we know my heart's exposed
Now I'm alone you lost me baby

And so I'm never gonna dance again,
I lost my rhythm when you said it's over,
And as the final record starts to play,
I feel the dance floor turning colder,

And so I'm never gonna dance again,
Cause all the music in my world has faded,
Oh no it's never gonna be the same,
I guess the moves just never made it

I'm getting down but the rhythm's all wrong
The record goes around, they're playing our song
I gave into the groove but its giving me pain
There's nothing you can do for me Mr. DJ

And so I'm never gonna dance again,
I lost my rhythm when you said it's over,
And as the final record starts to play,
I feel the dance floor turning colder,

And so I'm never gonna dance again,
Cause all the music in my world has faded,
On no it's never gonna be the same,
I guess the moves just never made it

Its over, its over
And so I'm never gonna dance again
Its over, its over
And so I'm never gonna dance again
Its over, its over
And so I'm never gonna dance again
Its over, its over

LMAO. That's just terrible! I honestly can't think of one song I've ever heard at a funeral.

I imagine someone will play Highway to Hell at my funeral knowing full well that I can't stand AC/DC. But, anything to get a good laugh is just what I would want.

lol what a choice!

just thinking about this is joltingly bad. of all the songs....

What's the worst thing you've ever heard at a funeral?

most of the music ive heard at funerals has been in the form of hymns and for the most part, beautiful songs, tho on occasion the singer has left me wincing.  the only funeral ive ever attended where popular music has been played was many years ago when a friend died unexpectedly. the family took the music collection and had everyone contribute photos which they turned into a slide presentation to go along with the music. made me cry at the time.

What would you like to have played at yours?

hmmm well what id really like is to have one of my writer friends or ex's write me an elegy. something id approve of like ode to a  world weary curmudgeonly kerry woman who secretly believed, despite massive evidence to the contrary, that all people are good people. i wouldnt mind if it were set to music tho:)

if i were to pick a song for the death of an elder id pick "september when it comes" by johnny and roseanne cash.

"I plan to crawl outside these walls,
Close my eyes and see.
And fall into the heart and arms,
Of those who wait for me.
I cannot move a mountain now;
I can no longer run.
I cannot be who I was then:
In a way, I never was."

for an unexpected death id choose "if i had only known", eva cassidy version.

"If I had only known
Id never hear your voice again
Id memorize each thing you ever said
And on those lonely nights
I could think of them once more
Keep your words alive inside my head
If I had only known
Id never hear your voice again"

Theres a Mary Black song that i think would be great tho at the moment the title escapes me.  if i had to choose music for my own final party, id prolly choose what a wonderful world louis armstrong version tho i suppose there would have to be an asterisk on the program explaining the choice so people wouldnt think my going to the great beyond was cause to celebrate!

"The colors of a rainbow.....so pretty ..in the sky
Are also on the faces.....of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands.....sayin.. how do you do
Theyre really sayin......i love you.

I hear babies cry...... I watch them grow
Theyll learn much more.....than Ill ever know
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world"

wow...way too heavy a topic for 2am....too many choices...and also thinking: is the music played a statement "from" or "about" the loved one as night owl and cat say....or a statement from those left behind and how they are feeling or something they want to say to the loved one....or...would it even be possible to pick a song that combines both....???

recently at the funeral for the son of a friend, they played "I'll Be Missing You" by puff daddy, along with a photo montage.  It had a lot of meaning for the mom and what she felt/feels....

Every day I wake up
I hope Im dreamin
I cant believe this sh*it
Cant believe you aint here
Sometimes its just hard for a ***** to wake up
Its hard to just keep goin
Its like I feel empty inside without you bein here
I would do anything man, to bring you back
Id give all this sh*t, sh*t the whole knot
I saw your son today
He look just like you
You was the greatest
Youll always be the greatest
I miss you big
Cant wait til that day, when I see your face again
I cant wait til that day, when I see your face again...

Yeah... this right here (tell me why)
Goes out, to everyone, that has lost someone
That they truly loved (cmon, check it out)

Verse one: puff daddy

Seems like yesterday we used to rock the show
I laced the track, you locked the flow
So far from hangin on the block for dough
Notorious, they got to know that
Life aint always what it seem to be (uh-uh)
Words cant express what you mean to me
Even though youre gone, we still a team
Through your family, Ill fulfill your dream (thats right)
In the future, cant wait to see
If you open up the gates for me
Reminisce some time, the night they took my friend (uh-huh)
Try to black it out, but it plays again
When its real, feelings hard to conceal
Cant imagine all the pain I feel
Give anything to hear half your breath (half your breath)
I know you still living your life, after death

Chorus: faith evans

Every step I take, every move I make
Every single day, every time I pray
Ill be missing you
Thinkin of the day, when you went away
What a life to take, what a bond to break
Ill be missing you

[puff] I miss you big

Verse two: puff daddy

Its kinda hard with you not around (yeah)
Know you in heaven smilin down (eheh)
Watchin us while we pray for you
Every day we pray for you
Til the day we meet again
In my heart is where Ill keep you friend
Memories give me the strength I need (uh-huh) to proceed
Strength I need to believe
My thoughts big I just cant define (cant define)
Wish I could turn back the hands of time
Us in the 6, shop for new clothes and kicks
You and me taking flicks
Makin hits, stages they receive you on
I still cant believe youre gone (cant believe youre gone)
Give anything to hear half your breath (half your breath)
I know you still living youre life, after death

Chorus

[faith evans] somebody tell me why

Interlude: faith evans

On that morning
When this life is over
I know
Ill see your face

Every night I pray, every step I take
Every move I make, every single day
Every night I pray, every step I take
[puff] every day that passes
Every move I make, every single day
[puff] is a day that I get closer
[puff] to seeing you again
Every night I pray, every step I take
[puff] we miss you big... and we wont stop
Every move I make, every single day
[puff] cause we cant stop... thats right
Every night I pray, every step I take
Every move I make, every single day
[puff] we miss you big

when my kids dad died, his parents chose "I can Only Imagine", by Mercy Me (played during the photo montage also)...not exactly one i would have picked from knowing him...but it wasnt as if they asked me..lol.

for me....eh, who knows....if i think of something, i'll get back to ya....not planning on needing one anytime soon...and if by chance i do, i would think someone would think of something suitable.....tho at that point i dont think it will matter much to me......confused

If I hear "Wind Beneath My Wings" one more time ...

That seemed to be "the" AIDS death tune.

When my dog before last died, I had her cremated, and made a flower bed in the spot in the yard where she used to lie and sun, and scattered some of her ashes there, so that she'd "be in" every flower which bloomed there. As I was doing it (by myself) I played BB King singin' "I'm Movin' On"

"Just this morning
I took a big long look around
I've lived it up and loved it up
And done it in this town
Life goes on
Look like it's time
For moving on

Good-bye, baby
I wanna thank you for the ride
We did a dance and took a chance
Nothing we ain't tried
C'est la vie
Time, you and me
Moving on

I'm moving on
I'll see you somewhere down the line
I'm moving on
We're looking good and feeling fine
I'm moving on
And you are yours and i'm mine
I'll see you somewhere in my dreams
I'm moving on
So thanks for all the memories
I'm moving on
And you can call me mr. breeze
I'm moving on
Life is full of mysteries
Nothing is ever what it seems

Might try Vegas
And keep on playing till i win
Or take it out to Hollywood
And fall in love again
Come what may
Night and day
I'm moving on

I'm moving on

I'm moving on
I'll see you somewhere down the line
I'm moving on
We're looking good and feeling fine
I'm moving on
And you are yours and i'm mine
I'll see you somewhere in my dreams
I'm moving on
So thanks for all the memories
I'm moving on
And you can call me mr. breeze
I'm moving on
Life is full of mysteries
Nothing is ever what it seems"

I might request that at my "Bon Voyage" bash. I think the coolest tune, though, was when a large woman died ... she had sheesh everything ... cancer, diabetes ... went blind ... got her vision back ... went blind again. Anyway, she was a GREAT woman and was "prepared" (I think "ready" even) and always had a huge laugh that you couldn't help but smile when you heard it right up to the very end.

As people were leaving her funeral she requested (and got) played over the PA system "Cheeseburger in Paradise." smile
