A slab of meat on a carry your own plate to your table cafe should be something to smile about. The diner has effectively removed the waitress, server, probably the busboy-girl and in some parts of the country Sarah and First Dude may have actually cooked the slab themselves. There's a place in Eastern PA that this is pretty popular at. All the owner needs to do now is leave a big honor system box by the front door for cash payments for the food and beverage and that wealthy lil cafe can shyt-can the cashier too! There's CHANGE for ya. LOLOL. I'm winking as fast as I can!

One thing they have talked about is developing it as a major 55+ community. Either way, when the leases expire the corner will look something like the cheap gas station across from Bay Pines. Empty, abandonded, boarded up, and for no clear reason.

well, if you mean the snell isle area...wow. i was just down there there the other day....what an extremely beautiful area!!!

There isn't a 3 mile radius on this entire FL coast that I would prefer to live in. Now, come time to buy? Sure, I may have to move outside my zone, then again my place is likely to turn condo. It's been realty managed for years. And the neighborhood is having it's fair share of sub prime disaster stories popping up. Some stories are sad and some are really just too good to be true, and while you have to feel badly, you kinda just DON'T have to. yanno? I've been in this neck of the burg for 16 years, a long stretch in the old northeast. One of the only things, besides the airport, that can get me back to Tampa, even for a day, is the Performing Arts Center, Tampa Theater, the Colonnade Restaurant and.....women in politics and the photo op that follows them. More to come, after the show.

well, well, well...howdy neighbor! i didnt know you lived in my neck of the woods! i am about 3/4 mile from seminole mall.....i havent heard that the mall is going to be torn down....altho, i do know there have been rumors to that effect for many many years.  lots of places closing down all around.  coupla weeks back, my friend kris and i went to take our kids to roadhouse for dinner...arrived and was surprised to find they had closed....bummer...was a nice place...at least we were able to just go across the parking lot to hit beef o'bradys that night. was also there this past thursday night to watch the baseball game and they were quite busy both nights...hopefully they wont close.   really tho, those living on the east side of seminole blvd still have to cross six lanes of traffic to get to the mall.....as far as publix, well that would entail another six lanes of traffic to cross 113th street after the move, but...i LOVE that they are going to move to the old albertsons location...much better in and out access and the parking lot is lots bigger...the older people that shop at publix, especially the ones that live at the assisted living center right by there, freedom square, wont be much affected as they have the shuttle bus.  that place is really nice....my son just started working there about two months ago after working at winn dixie for two years...started looking for a new job cause he and his gf were both working at the same store and they were on opposite shifts...so he wanted something that would make it easier for them to spend time together....(awwww, so sweet...of course, she basically lives here now, so dont really see how there was much of a problem...lol).  kinda funny i never pictured him working in a nursing home, but, with the current economy, he was having a hard time finding another job (thank gawd he had enough sense to keep his winn dixie job while looking for the new one...he wanted to quit and just assumed he would have no problems landing another one cause when he first started working at 14, he got the first job he ever applied for...sigh..it is so nice when they get older, lol, yeah the grand old age of 16 1/2 and start listening to mama..lol) and this place was one of the very very few hiring....and he actually loves it!  keeps me very entertained with the stories he tells from his daily adventures there....course then he posts them as bulletins on myspace and some of them have me rolling with laughter....

anyway, back to seminole mall....i am surprised the mall has remained open as long as it has....except for publix, cvs and the dollar tree, not really much going on there, most of the stores in there are dead..very very little traffic/customers....has it been in the paper lately that they are going to tear it down again?  i know when the exxon was torn down, there were plans to put yet another bank on that intersection....like we need another with about 6 banks on and very close to that corner!, yet that didnt happen either....be interesting to see if they do put condos there...who would want to live at such a busy intersection??? especially if they are highly priced...

Well, not quite neighbors, but I have sisters and parents all around you. Anyway, geographically, I'm more fourth and coffee pot park. Parallel streets or not, that's all I'll say. :)  Seminole Mall struggled for years but they recently resolved to letting it phase out. I'm not sure that the property is officially on the market but the leases are expiring like dominos. As for that little mall, it was the kind I'll miss. Like Gateway, though renewed and revamped it will never be the Gateway of old. Your mall? I scored plenty of great deals on NB's and KSwiss. Not many places left that have complimentary gift wrapping, though you do have to struggle through alot of small talk to get the goods. Now, I'm not suggesting that I had my own sneakers gift wrapped and tagged, but you never know.

One thing they have talked about is developing it as a major 55+ community. Either way, when the leases expire the corner will look something like the cheap gas station across from Bay Pines. Empty, abandonded, boarded up, and for no clear reason.

Oh no!  My nephew and his girlfriend both work at Beefs.  The one at Seminole and Park.  I know the Beef O'Brady's in Palm Harbor closed a few years back.  I didn't realize they were closing more locations.  Was there another location on 4th that closed?

Yep, Northeast Shopping Center. Put's an awful lot of pressure and competition on Harveys for a booth and some wings. More importantly, another in a chain down the drain. Seminole and Park is rough territory, for a job. Once Seminole Malls torn down it'll all be condo, with nobody that can afford them. apparently biden agrees:) he said something today about how obama would be tested in his first 6 months by an unnamed threat.
my thinking is sort of the other way, at least when it comes to threats from afar. not that they wouldnt try. i think they would to provoke a reaction and spending. i think mccain would be the preferred choice for foriegn terrorists simply because he has stated that iran is on the table and he will continue the war in iraq. bin laden et al want that to happen. the goal is to bankrupt us and defeat us like we did to the soviets at the end of the cold war. if we stop spending all of that money for this war and instead spend it on protecting our cities and if we concentrate on alternate domestic forms of energy that we can share with other countries we would end up bankrupting them rather than the other way around.

the money issue is a confusing one i guess. i remember obama saying that he would accept public funding in the general election and he reneged on that in part i guess because of the pacs and 527s or whatever they are called who raise money and do these proxy wars. mccain says hes sticking to the public funding which is 84 million for sept and oct but if you look at where those emails and negative ads are coming from its not out of that fund.
what i find appalling is the amount of money wasted on spewing all of this negative crap. none of it is solving any problems yanno? i would bet that at least 2 billion has been spent by all of the candidates in this election. imagine what else we might have done with 2 billion dollars? sigh

has there been a lot of job loss in your area? ive seen some big box stores fold up here and what ive really noticed is stock depletion in these same stores. there isnt the variety of things there once was.

im glad that you said that. that was my first impression also when i read that. there were certain key words that i think were intentionally used for that purpose. its sort of like they are throwing every innuendo at obama and hoping that some will get some subliminal message or something.  im not surprised when aol does that kind of stuff. they are big on using the worst photo of an unfavored candidate to illustrate an article. back in 2000 there was a big controversy about steve case and his ties to one of those cure your gayness places. it was as i recall sort of an indirect link. his wife  donated millions of dollars to a church and earmarked it for the church school but that church also ran the gay cure clinic and despite the earmark, if the organization, because of the donation, didnt have to spend 8 million on their school then they are freed up to spend 8 million other dollars on the  gay cure.
at the time case pointed out that he had done more for glbt resources than anyone by connecting us all far and wide but given the state of glbt resources on aol one has to wonder what kind of commitment case really intended.
i just googled case to see if he is still involved in aol and i found this website. i wonder if its still open?

www.onlinepolicy.org

check out the defamation and access areas.  interesting eh?

is he really? wow, i didnt know that. thats pretty reckless of the mccain folks. opening that up opens up the whole keating mess again and brings it into focus right before the election. incredible.  i didnt hear the whole of his question when asked the news shows focused on obamas answer and in his little aside to joe about sharing the wealth. did you see the original question? did it seem like a planted question?

on another note i see todays aol headline suggests that obama has some connection with some mysterious figure who used to be his "bodyman" ive not heard that term before but apparently a bodyman is sort of combo of gopher and security person. i figger theres gonna be the fabled october surprise any moment now. i wonder if this is what they plan on it being?

good god. people all over america are watching this and thinking, damn im not going to write to my representative because next election they might mention me in a stump speech and my life will be invaded. it stifles speech. and its incredibly invasive.

i was watching some new york news the other night and i cant recall if it was a local or national feed but they showed some guy whod been the man on the street in interviews literally hundred of times. they showed him in front of yankee stadium, they showed him in front of the today show and on and on there he always was. what are the odds, yanno?

I asked that very question today. Though, it was regarding the candidate, Barack Obama. I saw the 150 million dollars posted for September campaign contributions. With the limit on max contributions as they are who's to say a terrorist cell is not behind this or past contributions. Nobody can say where untraceable contributions have come from, nobody. Nameless, faceless, shrouded contributions. I mean no disrespect to "this one". Really. But, who's the plant? With the economy as eroded and spiraling as it is just how realistic is it that 150,000,000 dollars has been pledged up by the little guy, IN ONE MONTH, to make sure "this one" gets his ads and message(sic) out there?

oh i think its feasible. think about who his supporters are. hes got his grass roots folks who have done the send us five dollars please emails, a strategy hillary took up a bit too late alas, and then there are the wealthy liberal folks on both coasts who prolly contributed a lot in these final days.  look at the musicians and actors who are in his corner, those folks alone could raise that kind of money in a weekend.

i dunno bd think its wayyyy too big a stretch to think that obama is some sort of terrorist. the repubs are using these things to appeal to peoples fears and fixed news (conservative version) is gung ho to use it to alarm people and this robo phone thing is despicable no matter who its used against. mccain should know better, he didnt much like it when it was used against him during his last run. these peeble gotta decide which smear to go with and stick to it. the stressed accent on his middle name for instance to suggest hes a muslim infiltrator that is when theyre not suggesting that hes a christian radical intent on using liberation theology to overthrow democratic principles. those two dont go well together and i think in the islamic religion one of, if not the worst, offense is to denounce islam or to state that one is not a muslim so i dont think hes a plant. yeah hes liberal and educated and hes been exposed to all sorts of people and ideas in his lifetime, ideas arent dangerous nor is listening to them acting on bad ideas is and thus far he doesnt appear to be doing this, well it may have been a bad idea for him to not stick with things a bit longer but it seems to be working for him so far. hes not my favorite candidate among those who ran to be sure but i dont think hes a terrorist. on the negative side i think hes clearly a misogynist, hes a lot arrogant and a bit light on substance. on the positive side i think hes grown before our eyes during this campaign. hes a lot better versed on the issues, and hes more in control of his emotions then he was with hillary.  i think were more in danger of having the world mimic his latte and raddichio stuff than we are of his going "24" on us.

Earlier I went to get some take-out wings for the game. The restaurant was closed down. It was a Beef O'Bradys for crissakes.
I see another 30 or so folks without jobs, not another 30 or so campaign contributions.

whats a beef obradys? back during the last recession i had a bumper sticker that said i refuse to participate in the coming recession. i think thats a good thing for all of us to think. as bad as the fall of this house of cards is, its being made worse by people hoarding their bucks. this is a great time to buy stocks, it will never be cheaper. when was the last time the stock market crashed? was it 87? and then we had a recession till clinton was elected. it comes, it goes, invest in american companies that make things you enjoy or invest in recession proof things like health care or energy.  sooner or later it will all go up again and when it does youll be in far better shape for the future and in the process youll provide funding for these companies to stay in business. honestly i think we are all becoming addicted to catastrophic daily events and were allowing the world to act upon us rather than sitting back, taking stock, and acting upon the world. and there is a bright side to this, really. when globalization went amok we forgot the cautions that were raised initially, we need to be self supportive and weve farmed out too many of those things. we need to be able to make things and feed ourselves, we need to strengthen our infrastructure and we need to educate our population. we cannot continue to be a strictly service economy that expects our consumerism to drive our economy. maybe what this lil set back will hopefully do is bring people back to earth and bring back a lot of those jobs that will once again make us able to provide for ourselves.

ya gotta feel for the guy tho. he voiced his concerns to a candidate and now hes a public figure getting his life examined. wotta world!

yeah but it seems to not be working for him. i dont know if people are so focused on today and the near future that they dont care about a reformed terrorist who is now quite middle class.  then too his audience is primarily young people and baby boomers neither group gets too excited about an old radical. its the generation above where this might work and there seem to be too few of them to make a difference and i think that they can see between the lines here too and see that mccain is reaching.

Yup, and that's probably, finally, why John McCain is going to lose this election, despite the monumental bumbling the democratic party has exhibited the last year. It's come full circle, now, and is once again the issue of a democrat running against a republican. The economic woes with which we're now faced have finally "trickled down" from the Reagan de-regulation era, and the price to be paid by Joe The Carpenter is crippling. (Joe the Carpenter, as opposed to Joe the Plumber, AKA Joe Wurzelbacher whose dad, --as nearly as I can tell,-- Robert Wurzelbacher, [link: Robert Wurzelbacher - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia] is Charles Keating's son-in-law, and was indicted along with the rest of those crooks.)

I've heard Joe the Plumber (who oddly anticipated his proposed business netting him EXACTLY $250K a year, Obama's precise cut-off, which would indicate he would have assets around $1Million) isn't voting for McCain, but that's not been substantiated.

Again, it's a matter of McCain not properly vetting someone -- first, Sarah Palin, and now Joe the Plumber. It reveals, IMO, an unseemingly loose handle on something as basic as doing the research, and getting it "right" rather than trying to augment the ridiculous "maverick" image, and shooting from the hip first, and asking questions later -- not, IMO, a selling point for a potential world leader. Think: weapons of mass destruction positively in Iraq. This time, the "mass destruction" may have well come home to roost.

and what is even worse than that is how our right to privacy was sold to corporations. prior to the 1990s people had to have your permission to access your credit reports for example. not so anymore. and the corportations have used this as a ploy to raise rates on everything from mortages to credit cards and insurance. and it still going on. i heard on the news yesterday that because of this credit crunch banks are lowering the credit lines of many people. when banks do this its reflected as a negative on a credit report so if it happens to you, your scores drop and you pay higher interest rates even if youve never missed a payment. one of the things that was supposedly written into this buyout was protections against this crap but somehow its going to be same old same old i suspect.

Although it's a different issue, this reminds me of one of the more interesting cases on the high court's docket for this year ... an illegal search and seizure.

The high court has already taken some surprising stances on this issue in the last year ... in April, they affirmed the "right" of an illegal search of a vehicle superceding the state law which said the driver legally could only be ticketed (he was stopped for a minor traffic violation) and released. (Virginia v. Moore).

in the past the area that could be searched was that which was within the control of those in the car. unless you were found to have done something that required arrest and then the car could be taken and searched. has this changed? the exception to that is one where they stop and search everyone or every third one etc.

The Roberts court seems to be ruling with an increasingly narrowed eye, and even the "liberal" justices seem to be overturning privacy rights with ease.

It's just frightening to think what would come to pass with a McCain court.... oy.

One city here in the Greater Phoenix metropolitan area doesn't have law enforcement right now, because her population is predominantly hispanic, and they'd rather have no law enforcement at all than that of Sheriff Joe. This is right now.

this made *my* local news tonight. apparently he went and raided places in the middle of the night? cleaning crews?  honestly i dont think i could survive in arizona. between this kind of thing and the arial traffic tickets, curb alerts and parking gods id be in prison for life.

If we don't have hispanic attorneys to defend these unlawfully detained American citizens, who may, or may not be English fluent, and so, reluctant to employ an Anglo, English speaking only attorney, their rights will be significantly restricted, on the basis of race.

i remember driving across the border in california once and on us soil being asked to show proof of identity and have my trunk searched. id just shown my id to enter the country and i was taken aback at being asked for my "papers" in san diego.

Ok, no problem, well never ask again.

"Well," you may say, "they should just take the Anglo attorney, and if they don't, too bad for them." Positions reversed: I, as an Anglo, need an attorney to defend me in a civil rights case -- am I going to want a hispanic attorney who will need a translator to understand what I'm telling them?

This is just one small example of what hangs in the balance in this election, in regard to the high court. Whether or not affirmative action now in place will survive or be struck down. Just one example of thousands of issues examined over the course of a lifetime appointment.

IMO, the issue of Supreme Court appointments supercedes the economy, the war in Iraq, and everything else. It holds the potential to significantly reshape the guts and heart of our country. Why, how, it's not gotten more attention, frankly astounds me.

Yeah, I hope the meanest taunt she hears growing up (not that I wish her any mean taunts at all, but they're inescapable for kids, aren't the?) is "Loser!"

I know in a lot of respects I'm preaching to the choir here, but again, I'll mention what I consider to be perhaps the most important issue at stake in this campaign: the balance of the Supreme Court.

Again: right now, there are (speaking in broad terms) four conservative judges, four liberal judges, and one in between, who typically leans to the right. It is almost certain at least two of the liberal judges will be retiring in the next four years (one of them, presently the only woman on the high court.)

If these two liberal-leaning justices were to be replaced with McCain appointees, we would have the most conservative court we've seen since before the Warren Court. "Roe" will be overturned. Period. "Miranda" will have the last life squeezed out of it. One may stick their heads in the sand and say "it won't happen" all they wish, but that won't change the truth of the situation. It will happen.

There are test cases poised right now to challenge existing laws which will be reviewed by the high court after the election, dealing with search and seizure laws, and could potentially change significantly long standing assumptions of what it means to be an American citizen.

The impact of these appointments simply cannot be overstated. Look, for instance, at affirmative action -- it too will fall, with a conservative bench, and when it does, so will the number of people of color allowed, for instance, admission into law schools, who will then oneday may become judges (every member of the Supreme Court right now was a Federal Appellate Court judge prior to their appointment.)

Does that matter? Hell yes, it does! How can we honestly assert we have a "fair" judicial system if 98% of the attorneys and judges in this country are as lily white as am I?

We're fast approaching a time when close to half our national population will be Hispanic -- doesn't that population deserve, that the very least, representation in our court system?

I'm a liberal, and yeah, I'm keenly attuned to civil rights issues, but even so, I'm not a person of hispanic descent, and never will be. We're not talking (yet) about actual appointments to the Supreme Court, just the chance to get into law school, and maybe become an attorney one day.

Sure, it would be really nice to believe that right now, everyone has an equal opportunity for that, regardless of race and gender -- that it's pure enough to only look at grades, and go on that basis, when considering admission, but that's just not yet the case.

This issue comes down to basic human fairness.

We have, in my state, a renegade Sheriff who has been doing racial profile generated "round ups" here for at least a year now.

He, and his deputies go to specific targeted areas, and simply stop any brown skinned person they wish, and demand they show proof of citizenship.

i dunno i think its backfiring on him. people are so caught up in this election and the coverage is so complete that all of the talking heads hash out this stuff on every channel and part of that hashing out is the taking up of whether or not he, or obama know what their surrogates are doing  and whether or not they should be stopping it from happening. the other day even fox news was saying the negative attacks were out of control, mentioning specifically the kill him comment. i think at the beginning of this campaign those kinds of proxy wars were effective but as people become aware of the tactics they are less effective and have the effect of making him look, well really odd. the john mccain that people are used to is the sort of calm grandfatherly guy who speaks reasonably and holds moderate views that most of the country can understand. when his flashes of temper have become public its been over something hes passionate about but these days hes going off on voters who ask questions and it makes him look senile.  at least thats what it looks like to me. lol. i do see that the gap in the polls expands every time he goes really negative. i dont think thats what most of the undecided want. out of all of the voters they are probably the least tied into any particular party and view the polarity of this contest as being about power rather than problem solving.  i mean this whole contest has been about change, about not having the parties dissolve into gridlock and when they do these attack ads or whisper campaigns most reasonable people probably think oh god who cares what about the price of gas? or the retirement funds or the price of housing, whatcha gonna do about that.

of the 3 major cable news outlets i find cnn to be the most reliable. both fox and msnbc have biased coverage but cnn seems to be doing a fair job at the middle ground and they have this daily fact check thing that i love where they determine which of the candidates has made allegations that are not based entirely on fact. the more the claims are challenged and people get that the less it becomes an effective thing.

i did hear today that mccains camp is thinking of trotting out the rev wright tomorrow and the talking heads have all said big mistake, its too late in the campaign, there are too many other pressing problems, etc. it will be interesting to see what he does in the debate. this is his last shot at it.

i guess its circulating on the net. when people run for office all sorts of info becomes the voting publics right to know. i suppose if you were applying for a job the school records might be asked for but the rest of it is sort of unnecessary.  i was listening to cnn the other night and they were talking about medical backgrounds and the publics right to know. apparently both candidates have not released all of their records tho mccain has released far more than obama who submitted a drs note saying he was fit for office.  im of mixed mind about that. in a way that should be enough tho maybe id be happier if it were a panel of doctors but really i dont need or want to be privy to anyones medical records but i do want to know if they have anything that might get in the way of their carrying out their duties. the big issue with that link to palin would be the iq score which, if true, might be a cause for concern.

Frankly? I see a phone call to the Iraqis, by a US Senator, behind the backs of the government and the general public, DURING an active war to be somewhat treasonous.

this is the first time ive heard this and i tried to find info on it but there isnt much except the claim made not even a response on fact check.  what was the context of this?

Now the press has us doing what? Looking at Palins high school grades? lol. barack obama has enjoyed a free pass with the American press like I have never before "in my lifetime" seen.

rage.gif

it does seem that there is some outside force pushing obamas presidency thru and its kind of disconcerting to watch. i was angry as hell about this when it happened to clinton and its still going on but im telling you that much of the bad press mccains getting right now has to do with that very bad strategy of twisting things to really make obama look bad. its resulted in firing up the wackos and there are so many web sites now that debunk this kind of stuff that after the fact it makes mccain look desparate.  mccain needs to tell everybody who is advising him to stfu and sit and remember what his roots are and what he believes in. it would be way more effective for him, dontcha think?

yes i did see it and i liked it. it had a sort of contrived plot but heck the idea of stringing together a lot of abba songs and creating something from that is brilliant. the scenery was gorgeous...sigh...i wouldnt want that life tho too many drama queens!  or dancing queens lol

i guess its circulating on the net. when people run for office all sorts of info becomes the voting publics right to know. i suppose if you were applying for a job the school records might be asked for but the rest of it is sort of unnecessary.  i was listening to cnn the other night and they were talking about medical backgrounds and the publics right to know. apparently both candidates have not released all of their records tho mccain has released far more than obama who submitted a drs note saying he was fit for office.  im of mixed mind about that. in a way that should be enough tho maybe id be happier if it were a panel of doctors but really i dont need or want to be privy to anyones medical records but i do want to know if they have anything that might get in the way of their carrying out their duties. the big issue with that link to palin would be the iq score which, if true, might be a cause for concern.

Looking at Palins high school grades? lol. barack obama has enjoyed a free pass with the American press like I have never before "in my lifetime" seen.

it does seem that there is some outside force pushing obamas presidency thru and its kind of disconcerting to watch. i was angry as hell about this when it happened to clinton and its still going on but im telling you that much of the bad press mccains getting right now has to do with that very bad strategy of twisting things to really make obama look bad. its resulted in firing up the wackos and there are so many web sites now that debunk this kind of stuff that after the fact it makes mccain look desparate.  mccain needs to tell everybody who is advising him to stfu and sit and remember what his roots are and what he believes in. it would be way more effective for him, dontcha think?

High school GPA of 2.2, clearly under 1000 on her SATs.  Here is one of the Media Clippings.  You can find this on page 14 of the 15 page report.

Okay, this is all I'm going to say; a new report has Lindsay Lohans at 138. I checked out the scribd.com, searched a couple of things there. I felt like singing out "right, left, right, left...." It's actually a great place for a good scare, no matter what ones individual affiliation, or lack of, may be. Honestly, I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but really. Nearly thirty years have passed since she took her SAT's. I guess I kinda missed that point. Is there anyone alive that can say nothing has changed in thirty years? Is someone impying she's stupid? That hasn't stopped the Americans from electing "stupid" before. Is it simply because she's a stupid woman? Or a scary one? Do we have THAT LITTLE faith in Congress, to again allow a team to walk into that office and At least she didn't call the Iraqi P.M. and beg that they make no political decisions until after the American elections. THE MOMENT OF HIS DEMOCRATIC CORONATION. This thing is a joke. Frankly? I see a phone call to the Iraqis, by a US Senator, behind the backs of the government and the general public, DURING an active war to be somewhat treasonous. Of course I refer to the call he placed to the Iraqi P.M. requesting that no decisions be made by the Iraqis relating to this "WAR", the American presence, withdrawal or long term decisions until AFTER the American elections, and the inauguration. It seems to be of little concern to the public that such naive arrogance coupled with potentially disastrous effects to the security of our troops on the ground. You've forgotten the attention given to Barack's high school career? All the interviews with his former classmates? The pictures of him playing basketball?

Didn't the press demand a copy of Michelle Obama's dissertation to scrutinize? Has the furor over Barack's birth certificate finally subsided?

In which areas has the press given him a pass, specifically? Which portions of his life? His days "pallin' around" with the domestic terrorist? The half brother in Africa? Really, BD -- sincerely: where has the press given him a pass?

ive never been one to keep the success score in terms of money tho i know many do. to me its more about being able to do what you want to do today or next week or next month and what might stand in the way of that and success to me is overcoming whatever those obstacles are. sure you have to be willing to do something with whatever resources the goddess blessed you with and following your dreams is always a fabulous idea well almost always i guess for every door opened one closes, yanno? i have a dream to move to the greek islands and live simply. wake up to the sound of the surf and sun on my cheek, nothing but peace and quiet and maybe pick olives or something lol. why? because i saw some silly haley mills movie set in those islands when i was 10 and the idea has been stuck in my head since then.  maybe when all the kids are done with college and ive paid off their mountain of student debt ill get to do it or maybe not. lol

I used to have a kid cut my grass (he is dead now killed in a car accident on his way to work) this little guy was a worker and reliable. before he turned 16 he owned a nice kobota riding mower with trailer to haul his blower, trimmer and edger. He graduated high school in the "resources" class, by the hair on his chin. He bought himself a brand new pick-up for his graduation present to himself. Now if ya made me guess I would think Jason had an IQ around 68 to 73, but the boy wanted things and was willing to work for them. I was one of his first customers and helped him learn that there is more to cutting grass for money than just pushing a mower but he retained stuff like ya don't blow the grass in the flower beds, sweeping off the drive is part of the job. Naw, Jason couldn't read but the lil chyt was willing to work and please his customers. I miss that kid and I am glad I got to know him, I think we were both made better people thru our friendship.
Mackie, who finished the ninth grade, by gawd!

The link I posted is an HTML page of the pdf I received earlier. The IQ test results were from her high school in 1982. At the time, 100 was the mean.

its asking me to download an adobe flash thingy which aint happenin on this puter. i was able to sort of see it on my hand held but i didnt see the source of the info only the line where her score was presented. ill be curious to see if this ends up being her test result. geesh youd think her school wouldnt make that info public, heck, never mind that, youd think her school would have destroyed those records by now how many years ago did she graduate?

And this is exactly what her report cards indicate. I wasn't able to paste the picture here.

i guess its possible but i dunno, ill be curious to see if this gets debunked in the next few days. if its true id give her a whole lot of credit for hard work. but id still hate her politics. lol i wonder if george bushs iq is posted out there?

I think the test was given in high school. I remember taking one myself, but was never allowed to know the score. My father had us all convinced that it was against the law to know your own IQ.

Don't ask.

lol when i was in grad school i tested all of my kids and all of my friends. they were my practice tests! i wouldnt tell them their iqs either. i did tell the kids that they were all around the same except one of them scored 1 point higher than the others. do you know that to this day they harrass me to find out who scored the extra point?

most parents wont tell because they dont want their kids to get big heads or to become discouraged. the tests have some predictive value but they are not the be all and end all. tho in the wrong hands they can be.  years ago there was an experiment done where kids who were low scorers on the test were placed in a class and the teacher was told they were gifted. at the end of the year the teachers evaluations were remarkable and their grades reflected their "giftedness."

grin and I do know my IQ when I was in jr high and again in high school.

oh i think your iq is plenty high enough and that too is visible from language use. its not about being able to diagram a sentence (tho thats a fine skill i hope to learn myself one day:) its not even about spelling errors or typos.  ive not seen you struggle to understand anything thats been posted on any of these boards. if someone had an iq score in the low 80s youd more likely expect a poverty of word choice or expression as well as a slowness in processing new information and that certainly does not describe your use of language.

what i do notice about sarah palin is that shes got a 60 second delay in answering sometimes. im not sure if that is because she doesnt know the answer, or shes nervous or if she has some sort of learning disability. might be any of the above. what magazines do you read? thats not a hard question and its one that even someone with an iq of 83 should be able to answer easily but she couldnt or didnt. dont know which. my initial reaction to that was shes under pressure to answer and her mind went blank. happens to all of us sometimes but shes done it on other occasions so perhaps its about trying to process while filtering what shes allowed to say and what shes not allowed to say. yesterdays news reported that she made another reference to a policy difference between herself and mccain. this time it was in reference to north korea. i think shes supposed to stick to the party line. and im thinking that her answer to the mag question was prolly people, elle, cosmo and a few others and she prolly didnt think that would play well.

i cant load a pdf file on this desktop and i havent yet had the time to go get my laptop wireless card changed so i cant see this. does it indicate which test she took? can you cut and paste any of it? i seriously doubt if her iq is 83 tho. language usage is the best predictor of overall iq and while she does occasionally disorganize in her language use i think that has more to do with nervousness than any issues with intelligence. i will add here that the disorganization of her language does make me pause for other reasons but thus far  id chalk it up to nerves. were i to guess at where she might fall id say 115 plus of minus 5. the average is 100.  83 would be considered borderline. but were i to guess..say bidens iq..id put that around 145 plus or minus 5.

while on the surface there doesnt seem to be that much of a difference between 115 and 145, they are both above "average," id note that there is nearly as great a distance between 115 and what would be considered retarded as there is between 115 and 145. someone with an iq of 115 would be able to graduate from a state college and perhaps a state masters program, theyd be fine in a middle management type job. they might be teachers or police officers your neighborhood bank teller or the mayor of wasilla!

someone with an iq of 83 would struggle with a typical academic based high school program, they would struggle with higher level math classes or science classes, they would struggle to fit the pieces together when it came to analytical thinking but they would do well in jobs where more rote learning is required.

they might do fine in a factory setting or a word processing environment.  i cant think of any reason why her iq would have been tested.  usually this doesntget done unless there is some problem. however if someone were to get ahold of her achievement tests there is an iq component to those that might give a clue.

i wouldnt be alarmed at the other scores either.  most kids who end up in junior college or state college in this area have sat scores that are less than 1000 how much less might make a big difference tho if shes close to that mark. that would indicate to me that her iq is probably in that 110-120 range. and a 2.2 high school gpa for a flute playing beauty queen doesnt mean too much. a lot of women tank when they get to high school. especially in past years where being smart was not considered a good thing for a young woman to be.  as scary as she is as a political person, if any of those scores are real, shes come a long way with what she has.
