Even though today was our first day in only double digits, and there's some triples still in the forecast, today was an "OK" day for lawn mowing, and with a storm rolling in (just enough for a few sprinkles) the combined smell was heavenly.
i bet you are digging this change in a big way and the nights? they must be cooling down by now?
"Look, Ma! My shirt's still dry!"
Driving home from Mom's house, I passed my plant nursery place, and they had tons of pumpkins stacked outside. Seems a little early, doesn't it? I mean ... wouldn't they go bad between now and the 31st?
prolly not, unless you make jack o lanterns out of them too soon. this is when they come out of the garden! i have some sugar pumpkins that have come up and are awaiting the pie fate. this may happen as soon as tomorrow:)
Not sure how I'm going to handle the trick or treaters this year ... the BIG DOG will need to be put elsewhere, but really, I don't HAVE an "elsewhere" for him just yet. Maybe I'll just load Mom up with candy, roll her out onto the front porch, and close the door.
lol...oops..i mean awww:)
And maybe I'll wait until the 31st to do that ....
fall has finally arrived here too. the high was 59 today. bd bring a jacket for that philly trip! falls came late this year. last year the trees had begun to turn in late august and this year its been warm and wet and its only been in the last few days that weve got some good color going. this morning the plan was to strap the bikes to the car and hop on the pike heading west to new york state and then north to do a bike ride thru wine country. we got hungry tho one exit later lol and hopped off to get tea and crumpets in stockbridge. i hadnt walked around in stockbridge in years. the last time i was there the town hall was still the town hall and not a t shirt place and there were many interesting little shops to poke around in and yes, you could still have lunch at alices restaurant. well, now you cant get anything you want at alices restaurant because alice aint there anymore. kinda made me sad. sometimes its not a good idea to revisit old memories. stockbridge was full of touristas from new york city and gone are all the unique shops and theyve been replaced by the kinds of places that sell overpriced crud from far away places that dont practice fair trade.
we did stumble upon this really neat place along the way that sold asian statues and doors along with giant kites and beautiful fabric. they had these gorgeous hand carved entrances for your home for a mere 280,000. yeah ill be writing that check right now...not..but i had an odd experience there in front of one of the buddah statues. i felt its energy. i kid you not. it was palpable.
so we finally got upstate, the colors were gorgeous and we did ride the bikes. not as far as i woulda liked but i could feel my back starting to protest and it was so hilly and wooded that it started getting dark about an hour earlier than it would have in a less wooded spot. so the wise woman stops when the body says no and the worry sets in about getting back to the car before dark. we never did find the winery but we stopped and picked up a couple of nice bottles. at the package store. lol
the plan for tomorrow is a more laid back one. rent some old movies at the video store, throw some logs on the fire, and make pies!
i took lots of pix and will post em when i get my laptop back. i cant load the software on the dinosaur here.
And maybe I'll wait until the 31st to do that ....
LMAO that was just way wrong! why am I laughing?
