Hunh. Guess the news article (and my accompanying commentary) were ... pulled?

Weird.

But this has been a weird day for me all day long.
My Altec Lansing sound system hooked up to this PC decided this morning that it didn't want to wake up. Well, it woke up enough to show a red light only. I've unplugged and replugged the whole thing, and rebooted my PC, but still no sound.

This was a little disconcerting, since I've been working on a power point slide show with music.

uh oh.  walmart has portable speakers for the mp3. i wonder if that would work in a pinch?

So I took the weedeater out to edge the front and side yards. And? about half way through, the little button that goes on the outside of the spring which tells the weedeater to release more twine, vanished. I've looked all over the yard for it, to no avail. Considering centrifical force may have factored in, the dang thing may be still rolling into Apache Junction right now.

well that bites. this is sounding like a definite back to bed day so far.

ANYWAY ... San Diego forced four of their firefighters to ride on a truck in the Gay Pride Parade there. City employees, who had to do what they were told. I think they were all straight.

oh! i hadnt heard that.. i was thinking it was maybe about football or that san diego had succumbed to climate change and went overboard literally:)

So the firefighters sued the city for sexual harassment (which I've no doubt happened) and won something like $34K.

I thought it was a good decision, myself.

hmmm well it presupposes that there is something wrong with being gay which isnt a good decision to have on any book. the basis for the sexual harrassment is prolly that they were forced to do this because they were straight and that it caused them harm? or were there specific instances of actual touching that occurred? it makes a mockery of the sexual harrassment laws if the former is the case.  im thinking if someone is a lesbian firefighter who is forced to march in the labor day parade  or the rose parade which are defacto het then are the only way it might be considered sexual harrassment would be if it were done to punish them for being lesbian, forced to wear something or do acts that were more akin to heterosexuality like a gay male firefighter being pawed by women on the side of the parade route?

From Planet Out. Most folks within the LGBT community (polled) seemingly agree that the decision is the right one. Equality is NOT taking anything away from anyone or making them uncomfortable in their own skin. That's what we hate, after all. I can't believe this department allowed this, demanded this participation. I'm also surprised at the low amount of the awards. I can only assume it was a token gesture upon these firefighters and not an all out anti gay, anti equality statement, but a genuine commentary on their awkward participation in this parade, or parody. To me one of the most troubling aspects is the fact that these employees may well have been "ok" and proud to support their fellow neighbors, just not to the point that some faction of party goers would humiliate and degrade them. One things for certain, these firefighters will likely think twice the next time they find it appropriate to pinch a barmaid or high five a sexist, racist joke, if they were otherwise inclined to previously. Sensitizing through humiliation? Contemptuous.

I too thought the legal system got something right for a change. Now if they could just form some sort of momentum and consistency? That'd be swell.

"Ah well," thought I, "I'll just do something else."

Considering centrifical force may have factored in, the dang thing may be still rolling into Apache Junction right now. Big ole machine like that, and now, I may have to get another one because of one stupid little button.

"Ah well," thought I, "I'll just go back in the house and read Numb."

And now, I find that the news article I posted has disappeared.

It's only 1:30PM here. I may be just going back to bed soon, and wait for Saturday.
