President Barack Obama broke a taboo during a visit Wednesday to Ford's Theater in Washington. Honoring Abraham Lincoln on the eve of the 200th anniversary of his birth, Obama remarked on the 16th president's ability to recall passages of Shakespeare's 'Macbeth.' It's considered bad luck to say "Macbeth" in a theater outside a performance.
I have never heard of this, but that isn't surprising since I have no theater experience.
So, Owl, is this something you're familiar with?
and of all of the theatres to do this in. thats not exactly the place to be calling up bad news especially given his boycrush on lincoln. speaking of which the history channel had a special on lerone bennets book on lincoln, forced into glory abraham lincolns white dream. the book speaks of the unintentional way in which lincolns addressing slavery elevated him to hero status when he was reportedly quite a racist. other historians on the show however state that lincoln had a change of heart in later years. its very difficult to go back and try to understand a persons real viewpoint from a future point, maybe because we are all of different minds over different parts of life?

Yup. The Scottish play, telling an actor "good luck," pea**** feathers, whistling, live plants on stage... actors are a superstitious lot, when the come to the theatre.
I can't help but recall Cats old sig line, "other than that how was the play..."
Oh, I use that line all the time, it's one of my favorites. "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"
