Heh. The last time I talked much about the Arizona Cardinals, is when I was doing stand up. wink

You're coming to Tampa! <BD

Just think: had it been last year, it would'a been a home game! biggrin

There is alot of excitement that surrounds home teams making it all the way to the Superbowl (or World Series...sadangel.gif ) in their town. Especially when it's those subway series and across the bay face-offs. But, again, if it were this time last year we all would be in a different "place". If I recall we were all just kinda wondering why the hell gas was four bucks a gallon, how the hell did the little Manning make it to the BIG GAME and why did everyone hate the Pats so much? We're now wondering where did the strip centers and malls go? And why are there new nail and tanning salons, IN FLORIDA, opening everyday? Oh yeah, and how on earth are folks from Pittsburgh and Arizona going to GET here and see their teams?

I just read the final figure for "volunteers" at Super Bowl 43 has just hit, and cutoff at 6400 people. I could no more be comfortable in a crowd as large as the volunteers alone never mind face the traffic, the stadium mob, the law enforcement....And it really blows my mind that the 6400 people signed up as volunteers or a FREAKING football game though are quite likely to "not have the time" for a blood donation, an hour of reading to a homebound neighbor, the mentoring of a child to read or comprehend math or the arts but they have time for that. 6400 volunteers multiplied by a mere volunteer effort to go out and collect, say 50 dollars each for the United Way or the American Red Cross or local food and shelter banks, any number of health related charities would amount to well over a quarter mil dollars. That figure is staggering. We appear a selfish lot of brutes. But most of us aren't, we shouldn't be judged by what we do with our money or our time. It really is up to each of us.  But, it is a very good time, a necessary one, to reevaluate our means, and how we manage them. As they relate to the whole world. Because in the end, near or far off, we are still a part of the big picture.

Woah, I had no idea I had so much to say. Just when you think it's only a freaking game, nope, not really, not at all. Not when you dissect it. As I tend to do. blahblah.gif

As for the game, I'm rooting for Arizona. Largely in respect of Pat Tillmans memory and his putting his own career and family second to global democracy and the safety of our troops, and others in hostile war zones. Also, for Kurt Warner who has managed with class and determination to go from the Arctic corn fields with his Iowan boyhood dream to the land of swampcoolers to achieve them. He's given every ounce of determination and grit to prove he can "take it" under pressure. And he's probably going to the Football Hall of Fame now. Unless we close that too. wink.gif Just call ahead to be certain they're still "open".

Yeah, you gotta give it up for Kurt Warner. He's a study in tenacity, and stong work ethic, if ever there was one. Were there to be a movie about him, Robert Redford of 25 years ago would be a... "natural" for the part. Again. :) Plus, he's the perfect leader for this "Rodney Dangerfeld" team, if ever there was one. You'd think a guy who already HAD ONE Superbowl ring would get a little more respect, but he is, after all, a broken down old man of 37 or so... :) Matt Leinart sailed in here with acclaim as high as his salary, and flat out didn't produce. Warner was there as a backup, and never whined about it. Sometimes... things work out well for the "good people." I think that's so with Kurt Warner. JMO

does volunteering get them inside?

nope....the volunteer opportunites for this years super bowl in tampa, were for airport volunteers, hotel volunteers, transportation volunteers, office volunteers and NFL Experience volunteers....

the volunteer website specifically states that there are no super bowl tickets available to volunteers and that the NFL does NOT place volunteers inside the stadium on the day of the big game.

oops...forgot to add...season ticket holders of the teams participating are also eligible to enter a lottery draw for the opportunity to purchase tickets...when the bucs went to and won the super bowl, the cost of the tickets, if you were selected for the opportunity to buy them, was about $500.

clueless. are they sold in advance of the playoff game?  id imagine the scalping potential is high but there must be some less expensive seats?

well the NFL does hold a lottery for the opportunity to purchase superbowl tickets....anyone can enter this free drawing....only 500 tickets are sold via the lottery and the cost is approx. $400 per ticket.  requests must be received between feb. 1 and june 1 at NFL headquaters.  those selected are able to purchase the tickets in october.

the "cheapest" tickets currently available thru re-sellers are $1600 each for the worst seats.....the luxury suites are in the $89K range....(with three offers of tickets (that i found) for over $100K!!  no)

theyre fronts for prostitution?  cynic.gif

at least thats been the case in these parts where a big crackdown has been happening. of course these crackdowns are selective and dont seem to effect the back pages of the local alt rags or craigslist where outcall booty seems in great supply.

its national service day too! and there are a lot of opportunities to volunteer and many of them are online opportunities. ive been looking at them today.  i used to do  an average of 6 hours of  service  a week but  in these last years ive gotten lazy. i do enjoy  those vol ops tho bec ause they give an opportunity to stretch a bit. the ones ive seen today that appeal to me are best buddies,  playing board games with hospitalized people, and art therapy with terminal ly ill folks.   i do worry about starting something that i might not have the time to really do it right but  i do think ill explore the possibilities.

well i think there would be a tremendous amount of additional excitement if the super bowl were being played by the home team of the host city.....(and while exciting, the world series is always played in the two stadiums of the participating teams)....this has never happened in the history of the super bowl....can you imagine if this were last year and the cardinals were playing in arizona? or if in 2002, the bucs had played in tampa instead of going to the super bowl in 2003?

and why did everyone hate the Pats so much?

i think that was a combination of they had been there a couple of times and their arrogance....idk...i think it is nice that the team is so bonded....i mean, some of the players stayed with the team despite offers from other teams at substantially increased pay...however, for me, i did like to see a different team win...and the under dogs at that.

i saw parts of both games tonight. i really wish i understood football. i was a lil caught up on the 'stillers" game tho and worried about the dude with the long curly hair. im surprised that he doesnt get it pulled a lot. then there was that crash of heads that left one of them taken away on a stretcher. the announcers mentioned that he was able to wiggle his extremities . that some scary stuff.  i think youre in for an interesting super bowl! are you florida women all gonna go?
