twas a dark and stormy night...

a nor easter blew thru yesterday and today with the worst of it in the predawn hours. the power went out around 4am and came back on a short while ago. im a prisoner in muh own home. many of the roads are closed due to downed power lines from icing and then there is the flooding. nothing like a lot of water on top of a lot of ice to make the day all warm and cozy! the water is shin deep in parts of the yard and had it continued for another few hours itd prolly be shin deep in my kitchen. its funny how a stormy night when i have a house full of family can feel very nice but when its me and the animals all of those wind driven thuds of branches on the house combined with no power feels just a bit scary.  but the good news is that the basement is dry, the power back on and geez if this had all been snow...one in of rain supposedly equals 12 in of snow? right now there is an occasional flurry but i looks like nothing more will happen today. id have to think about staying in til spring were that the case!  i do have to find a way south today tho and hopefully before the big night freeze sets in refreezing all of those icy puddles. i have work to get in before the winter break officially begins. gunnita if youre still lurking out there i hope that you and yours are warm and dry. ive heard that parts east of here were even harder hit.
