The Rays have 5 Dominicans, 2 Venezuelans, 1 German(?) yes, German.
a german? wow. lol. thats a lot of dominicans. i wonder if the others who were born here were from the south. i know with my baseball kid i paid for 3 seasons of ball each year and in the 4th season i paid for pitching clinics for years and still i think kids growing up in warm places have a decided advantage.
And the rest are "regular Americans" I couldn't resist. Anywho, the wing place was hopping, but, out of curiosity I did get close enough to realize it was the Craft Store and Dentist that closed down, next door. No parking, went to Subway...AGAIN. 644 points on my Subway card. That's alot of turkey wraps.
yeah i did the subway lunch today too. it wasnt what was planned tho. lol. someone invited me to lunch today to thank me for something id done for her recently only her car battery died and the 2 hours id set aside for this lunch turned into dealing with her dead battery. when i got to her house she said do you have jumper cables. i said yup do you know how to use them? she said no but ill figger it out. nope, sorry, no way. i just know how that adventure would end. ive learned the hard way to never give a butch tools she doesnt quite know how to use. no experimenting with my vehicle thank you very much. AAA to the rescue. by the time that was taken care of, the battery jumped the ride to get another battery and the wait for it to be installed accomplished i had just 27 min before i needed to be heading back to work. just time enough for subway. bah. no good deed goes unpunished:) (now im promised dinner instead of lunch for the double good deed. well see how that goes. i think ill wear my flak jacket. lol)
Feel better, I hope you shake your cold soon it's just way too early in the season to start that stuff.
yeah it is but i am glad i got it now and not in january. im left with a sinus infection tho and the doc wont give me antibiotics. he says its viral. i say secondary bacterial infection gimme drugs please and thank you. i suppose ill have to go another week before he believes that its really bacterial.
The other thing, regarding personal details of the players, I was fascinated to find out that the kid that pitched the last inning or two of the AL East Division win, David Price, not only just came to the Rays (at 23) last month, but attended Vanderbilt on a full achedemic scholarship. That was a neat thing to hear. And nine of the ten last years, at last place in the AL East? These guys were all 13,14 and 15 years old for that. Good for them. It's a new era. Now, I guess I'll get some wings. :)
, ,
that is a good thing. he must be good. so many of the players come from the DR. they have year round ball so they are hard to compete with. and how were the wings? my cold is still hanging on in muh nose so i have no appetite. good for the diet but im hungry but i dont know for what since nothing appeals to me.

yes now if only the cubbies would someday take the big one. but you must be celebrating in the streets tonight! its kind of nice to see different teams in the series.
I'm so excited for the World Series. Finally, the Phillies make it back to the series and as luck would have it, it's the same year the Rays go for the first time. The Phillies have been my team for about 30 years, it'll be hard to cheer on the Rays, but I really would like to see the Rays win.
Your sons story? Now that is cool.
yanno it really was. i was shameless in inviting a section full of friends and family to go and cheer him on which im sure did nothing to alleviate the nervousness of that moment. the kid lives and breathes sports. he started playing ball at 3 and a half following in the sibs footsteps. the sibs played sports because my rule was 2 activities for each kid and one had to involve exercise and they quit as soon as they could but not the young one you couldnt pry the lucky yankees cap off of his head from the day he whacked at the t at tball. im sure he went to dreamland most nights of his life thinking about the day hed be on that mound. i dont think ive ever had that kind of passion for any activity but i really i wish i did. anybody else have a dream in their life that they followed with whole self forward motion?
What a great story. Some people are just born for certain things. I don't know too many people who have done that - had a dream and never faltered from achieving it. That is the truest form of success, IMO.
My son followed sports religiously - all sports. When he was 7, I took him to his first Phillies game, he held onto that score card and recorded every play. I didn't know he even knew how to do it. Even today, he can tell you who the top players are in each sport, stats, etc. Me? I watch games for enjoyment, I don't really get all wrapped up in the individual players.
Two things;) One, retraction on the local Beefs, apparently I was looking in the wrong storefronts. Or they were playing possum? Would have helped to get out of the car, but they can't make their rent, so I guess they're trying to save on lighting too. My bad. They are still open. I know because a friend of mine, a social worker, youngest daughters teachers husband owns it. Nothing like a small town to get a BIG rumor going. So, the wing joint has been "served" notice, but they are still serving wings. For now. So, please, I hope I didn't upset the nephew and his girl. This W.S. actually may help save the life of the 4th Street Beefs.

geesh i hope he doesnt whine and want an uzi for his birthday...
She was in chorus throughout middle school and high school and taught herself a few instruments. She's currently teaching herself the guitar.
maybe she will end up with a career in music! ive never heard of marble leagues. thats very cool. i used to collect marbles when i was a kid and loved getting unusual ones.
Nah, she just plays music for fun. I'd be happy with any career she chooses, especially if it doesn't involve the military. She's in that "what do I want to do with my life" stage. I'm sure she'll go to school next year and figure it all out. Of course, I'd love to see her go into accounting and have her come work with me, but that's my dream, not hers.

that is cool she is teaching herself guitar....my 11 y/o is doing the same thing..by taking lessons from youtube of all places! hey at least you dont have to worry about your daughter quitting school to become a guitar hero pro! lol. have to ditto the last sentence of the editorial....parent. of. the. year. sheesh..
A US teenager has dropped out of high school to become a professional Guitar Hero player - with his parents backing.
Editorial Review
An American teenager has dropped out of high school to become a professional Guitar Hero player. Seriously. 16-year-old Blake Peebles of North Carolina will forgo graduating high school in order to hone his skills on the videogame and, ideally, win some prize money. So far, his winnings have included videogame equipment and, it says in some news reports, "chicken sandwiches".
Guitar Hero, for those who don't know, is a videogame in which people hit buttons on a replica guitar to mimic chords being played by musicians - just like playing a guitar. The series has proven wildly successful over the last few years, and has seen a number of special editions released - among them Aerosmith and Queen. And while certain videogames feature championships offering serious prize money - and some people can make between $20,000 to $80,000 a year as 'professional videogame player' - those kinda gigs are few and far between.
Oh, in case you're wondering about Peebles's parents, they support all this. Kinda. His mother was reported as saying, "We couldn't take the complaining anymore. He always told me that he thought school was a waste of time." Parent. Of. The Year.
If nothing stood in my way, what would I do with my life? This question deserves a lot more thought than 1/2 cup of coffee at 6:30 can provide. However, off the top of my head, I'd say: return to school, travel more, and help people. We can't have a world full of people doing nothing but what they want to do. Someone has to do the work to make it all function, right? My son played tball, softball, football, basketball and they both played marbles in a league. My daughter was in softball and track. She preferred music though. She was in chorus throughout middle school and high school and taught herself a few instruments. She's currently teaching herself the guitar.

that old adage follow your bliss calls to us and yet most of us dont. we get talked out of those ideas and they are replaced by safer dreams and then, of course. you have to stay locked into them to keep it all going and thus is adult life. most of the motivational speakers ask the question, "if nothing stood in your way what would you do with your life." when i answer that question for myself i get to see how "things" have narrowed down my choices. and yet chucking it all and making those kinds of changes can be mighty hard.

did your kids play sports? mine played soccer, softball, basketball and baseball gymnastics but i would never sign the football permission slips. lol. that looked too hard on the bod.

after all those years of sitting on the various benches the only sport i watch religiously these days is womens basketball. the women are fine both on the court and in the audience. ive deveoped an interest in volleyball tho after seeing natalie cook:)
My sport of choice has always been baseball. Although, I love watching women's gymnastics. Those ladies are amazing!

oh how wonderful! thats such a great age too. i can picture a 7 year old boy intent on filling the card out perfectly. did your kids play sports? mine played soccer, softball, basketball and baseball gymnastics but i would never sign the football permission slips. lol. that looked too hard on the bod.

wow! what a game! such nail biter...but very exciting to watch (except for the fact that watching it and the trophy presentation, recap of the game, etc....meant getting to bed around 1am and, i tell you what...5 am rolls around waaaaaaaaay too soon on these kinda mornings...lol)...especially that last out...and the the jubilation of the players...the dog pile..the celebrating....i think there are gonna be lots and lots of people out there pulling for the Rays....such a young ball club, with lots a very young players...and for the team who was in dead last place last year, and many years before...to make it the game of games, is truly very exciting for these guys....two great teams....but gotta love the Rays!
and thats what makes it interesting. for two many years it was the same 3 or 4 teams in the series and with all of those top dollar players on those teams it lost the sporting aspect of it. its nice to see other names for a change

I'm a huge baseball fan. I grew up watching the Mets at Shea and got to watch their spring training for years when I first moved down here. As for that roof? We are a lightning hot spot and well within the cone of "lightning capital of the world" title. It gets real hot, bright and it sucks getting hit by lightning. I couldn't imagine the rain delays. Whatdya wanna see at a ballgame anyway, a sunset?
ahhhh wimps! lol. whats a lil lightning among fans!
Well I grabbed a cup of coffee and took a few of my own shots of the area.
loved the pix and the cloudless day. whats the temp down there now? is it still really warm? theres snow in my wednesday forcast. i cant wrap my head around that, its way too early for snow and it will knock all the leaves off.

Amen on the sweaty men staying fully clothed.
lol what a visual...why do sweaty men take their clothes off in public? i dont see sweaty women doing that tho its a far more appealing option.
See, now if sweaty women would shed clothes, I doubt too many people would complain. Unless, of course, they were 300 lbs and 75 years old. Then, you might hear a few groans.

Great pics, BD, as always! Tonight is the last game of the series. It's definitely a nail-biter.
Game Six of the AL Playoffs. Right here. The stadium opened up an aditional 6 or 8,000 seats typically "tarped" AND sold SRO tix for this game. I am soooo very glad I am watching from home. Well, they weren't from tonights game, but here's the stadium. :)
so which team didja root for? and why does your stadium have a roof! i betcha game 7 will be even more packed. are you a big fan? one of my kids pitched at fenway a few years ago for an exhibition game. he was scared spitless. hes on the mound getting ready to roll and looking down on him from the windows above, behind the batter is the whole flippin red sox organization (or so it looked to him) it wasnt his best performance but its one he'll remember for a lifetime.

why do we have a roof??? have you ever been to a sporting event in may, june, july, august, september in fla? holy heck! i went to several spring training games this year at the spring training stadium, typical outside stadium venue, no roof....omg...first time, i got killer sunburn everywhere except my face...didnt think about the fact that even my fingers could get sunburned (yes they did...along with everything else except my face...) not to mention the heat....the second game, i was again there with a huge fan...and even she wanted to leave early and she is no wuss..total outdoor girl and firefighter to boot....she had NEVER before left a game early....and that was in march/april....cant imagine what it would be like in the middle of our summer....even the night games would be killer!
